Service Project

Service ProjectThe Mission Commission has scheduled a service project at the Window on Thursday, April 7, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. to sort through donations and do other tasks to assist the staff. There is a sign-up sheet posted on the bulletin board by the mailboxes. If you plan to volunteer, add your name to the list. We will need to inform the Window staff how many to expect no later than April 3. All are welcome to help with this project.

Thank You Note

Thank youThank you for the prayer, thoughtful cards, and lovely planter we received following the death of Dan's father. Since it lasts longer than cut flowers, the planter will remind us of your thoughtfulness for a long time to come. --Dan and Jenny Schrock

Summer Bible School Volunteers Needed

Bible SchoolVolunteers are needed for our summer Bible School, June 6-10. Green (adult) and white (youth) volunteer forms were put in mailboxes. There are many ways to participate. Please consider how you can help. See the display in the fellowship hall or talk to Deb Williams. Forms are due by April 10.

New to Our Library

library bookSimple Pleasures:  Stories from my life as an Amish mother, by Marianne Jantzi. Young Amish homemaker and author, Marianne Jantzi, invites readers into her family's life and Amish community. The mother of four young children, Jantzi writes about her daily routines and heartfelt faith with equal measures of wit and warmth. Sewing, cleaning, cooking, gardening, and helping to manage the family store take up most hours in her day, but Jantzi finds time to pen columns for the Connection, a magazine beloved by Amish and Mennonite readers.

Bethany Fund

BethanyWe're so grateful for your generous contributions to the Bethany Fund. In the coming academic year four students from Berkey will be attending Bethany Christian Schools. To fully fund these four students, we need $37,718.82, 20% of which ($7,543.76) will come from our congregation's general fund. That means we need to receive above budget contributions of $30,175.06 into the Bethany Fund.

However, we're happy to report that we've already collected $47,088.76, which means that no further contributions are necessary between now and April 30. On May 1 we'll start receiving contributions for the 2017-18 school year, but with a beginning balance of $16,913.70. Thank you for generously helping to support our Bethany students! --Stewardship and Finance Commission

Conference Letter

Conference LetterAre you concerned about the tenor of the current presidential elections? The leaders of Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Conference have prepared a pastoral letter to others in the conference, calling us to "act like Jesus during this election cycle" in a climate of "overt racial, ethnic, and religious intimidation." You can read the full letter here.

Stephen Ministry Training Continues:  Closure

stephen ministriesThis coming week the Stephen Ministry training class will be considering the subject of "Bringing the Caring Relationship to a Close". In this presentation they will be considering how the sometimes difficult process of bringing a caring relationship to a close can instead be turned into a relationship-strengthening event. As the Stephen Ministry training continues, we get closer to commissioning Trish Yoder for her ministry among us. Continue to keep her in your prayers.

Community Announcements

Hospice Volunteers

A training opportunity is available in Goshen for people interested in becoming Hospice volunteers. As the hospice population continues to grow, volunteers who have been trained are greatly needed. A volunteer may provide respite for the family so they can continue with as much of their normal routine as possible. This can be as straightforward as volunteers spending time sitting with a patient or as involved as helping someone with a life review. The next training session will be April 12-28 on the Goshen Hospital campus. The 18 hours of training will be conducted in six 3-hour sessions on successive Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-9:00 p.m. See the bulletin board by the mailboxes for more details.

The learning tour will take place on May 25-29 in Arizona and will include crossing the border into Mexico.
