The purpose of the survey is to discover whether to keep the new start time of 9:30 a.m., or return to the old start time of 9:00 a.m. The Coordinating Council will review the results of this survey and bring a recommendation to the August 18 congregational meeting. Intergenerational Sunday School
Discovering God Through Journaling
This Sunday the intergenerational class on writing will take short passages of scripture and prayerfully re-write them in ways that speak to our personal situation. We meet in the sanctuary, led by Dan Schrock.
Discovering God Through Service
The red potatoes raised by the Discovering God through Service Sunday School class will available this Sunday. Suggested donation is $3.00 for 5 lbs. and $5.00 for 10 lbs. Proceeds from this project will go to the Kenyan Mennonite Church for HIV support groups and education. This project is sponsored by MCC and all checks can be made to MCC.
Discovering God Through Nature/Earthcare - Help us eat our Potatoes
Next Sunday (August 18), the The nature/earthcare Sunday school class will be learning about local food. August 18 is also a potluck Sunday, and we invite you to feature local food in your potluck dish that day. Looking forward to celebrating summer's bounty with you!
Potluck Meal and Congregational Meeting
A congregational meal will follow the August 18 service, after which there will be a congregational meeting. Members are encouraged to bring two dishes to contribute to the potluck. We also encourage people to bring their own table service to facilitate clean-up after the meal. ~ Fellowship & Caring Commission
Fall Marriage Retreat
Plan now on setting aside this time to work at nurturing your marriage relationship. This free retreat is jointly planned by and for Waterford Mennonite Church and Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship. On Friday, September 6th, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. we will meet at Waterford Mennonite for a brief input before heading out on a date of your choice, equipped with questions for meaningful conversation over dinner. Childcare will be provided. On Saturday, September 7th, from 9:00 a.m. until noon we will have input sessions. We will meet at Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship where we will work at strengthening our methods of communication in our marriages. Look forward to a humor filled, content inspired, and interactive time set aside to engage the complexity of communication! Save the date! Saturday, September 14, at 5:00 p.m. is our Fall Fest on the lawn, featuring a hog roast, potluck, and contra dancing with Barry Dupen, a caller from Ft. Wayne. This is a great way to welcome college students, neighbors who use our garden plots, and others in a context of fun and fellowship. Please bring a salad or dessert to share with others, lawn chairs or blankets, and your own picnic service. Buns, condiments, and drinks will be provided.

Children's Choir Auditions
Calling all children who like to sing! Children's choir auditions will be held at the Goshen College Music Center on Monday and Tuesday, August 19th and Wednesday the 20th. Rejoice choir for grades 3-5 and Shout for Joy choir for grades 6-8 meet weekly on Thursday evenings and perform in various settings, including Sauder Concert Hall. Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary
Globetrotter Daniel Schipani (Professor of Pastoral Care and Counseling) taught for two weeks this summer at Seminario Evangélico de Teología in Matanzas, Republic of Cuba. He also taught in Guatemala City, Guatemala, and at Hartford (Conn.) Seminary. This week he was closer to home, teaching in Indianapolis. He also recently published a new book, Multifaith Views in Spiritual Care (Pandora Press, 2013).
Merry Lea's "Essence of August" Hike This Sunday
Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College, Wolf Lake, IN, will be offering an "Essence of August" hike as part of its Sabbath Hike series on Sunday, August 11, 3:30 p.m. meeting at Merry Lea's Rieth Village. The 1.5-hour guided hikes are designed to help people let go of their responsibilities and witness the beauty of God's good creation. Prairie flowers are at their peak right now and the weather should be pleasant. Other dates in the series are September 8 and October 20, same time. Donation optional.

MCC Aid in Syria
When Syrian children return to school this fall, many will carry a weight much heavier than a backpack – images of violence that forced them to leave their homes, friends and schools. Some worry about where they will live and what they will eat.
