Congregational Meal and Meeting

November Congregation MeetingWe will have a congregational potluck meal this coming Sunday, November 16, following our morning worship! Bring a main dish, either a salad or a dessert, and your own table service. Join us also for the congregational meeting, which will follow after the potluck. The agenda for our meeting will include the following:
  • Approval of the August minutes
  • Discussion and possible vote on the proposal to hire a lead treasurer.

Sunday School: Sing for Peace

Hymn singThis Sunday we are having a hymn sing for peace in solidarity with the hymn sing led by the Goshen College hymn club. During Sunday school, you are invited to come to the sanctuary to sing your favorite hymns from any of the 3 hymnals. The Hymn Club is raising money for Christian Peacemaker Teams, so a basket will be available for donations to CPT. Please make checks payable to Goshen College, with CPT in the memo line. For those of you who don't enjoy singing, we invite you to spend this time in conversation with others, sharing from your week, or reflecting together on the sermon.

It will be hosted by Waterford Mennonite, College Mennonite and Berkey Avenue, and take place at Waterford Mennonite Church. The application can be found here. If you have questions, please contact Shirley Dick or Marilyn Rudy-Froese.

Prayer Shawl Group

We will meet at Laverne Nafziger's on November 18 at 4:15 p.m. Please RSVP to Laverne. Thanks

Thank you

Thank you Mentors and MenteesThanks to all the mentors and mentees who came out on Saturday November 1 to help rake the leaves for a couple who weren't able to do it themselves this year.  Their card of appreciation is posted on the bulletin board.

Why are we Proposing to Hire a Lead Treasurer?

From the stewardship and FinanceFor a long time, our congregation has relied on volunteer treasurers who are appointed by the Stewardship and Finance Commission. These treasurers care for our weekly contributions to the budget, pay our congregation's bills, manage our employees' payroll, complete forms required by the government, and in general ensure that our congregation's finances are in good order. Hannah Geyer

Getting to know Hannah Geyer
I grew up in Goshen and attended Berkey Avenue with my family. I have three sisters, Sarah, Leah, & Mary, who now live in Oregon, Kansas, & Virginia. In 2011, I graduated from Goshen College with degrees in Elementary Ed, Special Ed, and a TESOL endorsement. This is my third year teaching English as a New Language (EL) at Chamberlain Elementary. I work with 5th graders and teach a combination of one-on-one, small group, and whole class lessons, focusing on literacy and language. My husband Jacob & I met while in college and got married in 2012. We live in a cozy attic apartment, close to downtown Goshen and within biking distance from both of our schools. We love traveling, spending time with friends, and biking on the Pumpkinvine Trail.

Whether you are new or a charter member, we are continually learning to know each other and we want to get to know you more. It can be very simple, your name, what you do for a living and what you are interested in. You can view our newsletter archive for some examples. Interested in being featured? Let us know!
