SST Reflections: Judy Weaver and Richard Aguirre
Recently, several Berkey college student attendees returned from their Study Service Term. Richard and Judy Weaver, who serve as site directors in Peru, offer some reflections as they receive their final group of students.
We’re spending about a year (July 2013 to August 2014) in Peru, leading groups of Goshen College students who come here to complete their semester of international study.* We’ve hosted two groups, and our final group arrived in Lima on April 30. They are now settled in with host families all over the city and have begun Spanish classes and daily lectures and workshops. This our busiest time, while the students are in Lima. We spend days overseeing the program and evenings working side by side in a tiny office in our Lima apartment. Richard mostly handles the administrative details and Judy mostly handles the academics, but we both do a little of everything. May 18 Congregational Meeting
Next Sunday we will be having our Spring Congregational Meeting, following the worship service. We hope you can join us! Metekai Thank You Dinner

The Window Board of Directors
The Mission Commission is seeking a member of Berkey Avenue who has interest in being a Board of Directors member for the Window. Board meetings are on the 4th Monday of the month from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at The Window. Please speak to a Mission Commission member if you are interested (Lori Good, Clare Krabill, Marilyn Rudy-Froese, Curt Wenger and Pete Graber).
Opportunities to Support Model School
We have a couple of ways that you can help support Model Elementary School. The first is to provide new or gently used gym shoes for Model's shoe exchange. Students need the gym shoes for their PE classes. Shoes with laces or velcro are both okay. Slip on shoes are okay if they come up high on the foot and cannot easily fall off when running or kicking a ball. Sizes 13, 1, 2, and 3 are needed most but other sizes can be used as well. Place shoes in the box under the mailboxes by May 11 or deliver them to Ann Garl at Model. The second option is musical. Kent Dutchersmith, music teacher at Model, requests a donation of an old drum set or a snare drum and high hat cymbals (with stand and pedal) in playable condition. Please contact Kent

MYF Summer Service Trip
You are invited to join the MYF's summer service trip to Colorado! The MYF is looking for several people to join our trip to Jamestown, CO (near Boulder) where we will be working with MDS the week of June 29-July 5. Construction experience is helpful but not necessary. Funds are available from the Mission Service Project fund to cover your transportation costs to Colorado and everything else - food, lodging, etc. - is provided for you. This is a great opportunity to get to know some of the awesome youth in our congregation! Talk to Lois Mast if you are interested.
Roger Nofziger, who lives 2 houses west of the church has some apple trees that he is not harvesting apples from. He has informed us that anyone from the church who would like to take care of the trees can have the apples. For more information, please be in touch with Lowell Nafziger
Vacation Bible School
Families with children ready to turn 4 years - grade six will find student registration forms in your church mailboxes. These will be due by May 25, but are welcomed earlier than that. Bethany Christian High School choirs and instrumental groups will present their spring concerts on Friday, May 16, in the school chapel. The instrumental concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the choral concert to begin after a brief intermission at about 8:00 p.m. There is no admission charge and all are welcome to attend.
Emmaus' Final Performance
Bethany Christian High School’s performing arts troupe, Emmaus
, will presents its final public program of the 2014 season next Sunday, May 18, at 6:00 p.m. in Bethany’s chapel. Shared in area elementary schools and other public venues, this year’s show is entitled “Bits and Pieces.” Rather than fearing, ignoring, or fighting differences, people should engage each other and learn to work together in harmony. The show will begin with discord, transition to trying different ways of solving the problem, and end with engagement and harmony. In other words, the discovery that we’re all bits and pieces of the whole.
Goshen College will feature the Chicago-based Spektral Quartet with bandoneonist Julien Labro in concert Saturday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m. in Sauder Concert Hall. Together they will perform a lively program of South American jazz and tangos, which they have recently recorded. Tickets for this Rieth Chamber Series concert are $15 and will be available at the door one hour before the concert begins, or in advance at the GC Welcome Center. Community School of the Arts Auditions
All youth choirs of Goshen College's Community School of the Arts will hold auditions on Sunday, May 18, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. for their 2014-15 season openings. Students in grades 2-11 are invited to come to the Music Center anytime during these hours to audition for Rejoice (grades 3-5), Shout for Joy (grades 6-8) or the High School Honors Choir (grades 9-12). Younger students need no preparation, older students may bring a prepared song along for the auditions that will be 10-15 min. in length. Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary
Last Friday, Lois Barrett marked her advancement to the rank of professor with a public lecture titled "Beyond beliefs and practices." Lois has been a member of the AMBS faculty since 2002 and is professor of theology and Anabaptist studies. She was also director of the AMBS-Great Plains extension site from 2002 to 2013, and is currently assistant director of the Institute of Mennonite Studies. Watch the lecture online

Camp Amigo Woodcutters and Handlers Needed
Amigo Centre invites you to be part of its second Spring Woodcutting Day on May 17. In its effort to steward both its resources and the investment of its supporters, Amigo heats much of its three largest buildings with wood. Summer Camp is on its way! The theme for the summer is “Crooked Paths Made Straight”, and the theme verse being Luke 3:4b-6. T and Jean Mounsithiraj and family will be our camp pastors for the summer. Mennonite Central Committee's SWAP (Sharing With Appalachian People) program is seeking six summer staff to help with job site coordination for their home repair projects in Kentucky and West Virginia. Some construction experience is helpful, but not a requirement if you have the ability to learn. Summer staff are a critical component of SWAP's successful ministry, as they help facilitate the weekly SWAP service groups working on housing repair for low-income persons.
