Derstine Baby Shower

Elise, Adam and AbramBerkey will host a baby shower on November 24 for Elise and Adam Derstine.  They have plenty of clothes and books, but would appreciate gifts of money which would go towards the purchase of a crib and a supply of cloth diapers.  They are very appreciative for all that Berkey has been doing for their family!

Animate: FaithWould you like to ponder, reflect on, and discuss topics of faith such as God, Religion, Jesus, Salvation, the cross, the Bible and the Church? Come to Animate:Faith and hear some leading voices of the Christian faith--Brian McLaren, Shane Hipps, Nadia Bolz-Weber and others--talk about these central aspects of Christianity. Marilyn Rudy-Froese will facilitate this class. Each week we will watch a DVD portion with one of these leading voices, spend time in personal reflection and journaling (the journal will be provided: a donation of $15 is suggested), and engage in conversation. Learn more and hear excerpts.

Renovation Fundraising Update

Jubliee UpdateGood news!  We are just $3,452 short of our funding goal for the Jubilee Renovation Project.  Now that the costs are in, the goal has been reduced from $54,900 to $49,800.  The congregation has given a total of $46,858 as of last Sunday, which means we are ever closer to completely funding the project.  We celebrate this good news and invite you to give in a final push to fund the remaining amount needed to meet our revised goal.  Thank you all! ~ The Fundraising Committee, Phil Zimmerman, Jim Brenneman and Barbara Eichorn.

Cleaning Supplies Needed

Cleaning SuppliesThe Mission Commission has been asked by Cora Brown from The Church Without Walls to collect the following items for their shelter: paper towels, toilet paper, laundry soap, dishwasher soap, and other cleaning items. A container will be placed in the Fellowship Hall for these items, starting this Sunday through Sunday, November 24. The shelter serves single women and households headed by women, to help them obtain stable and sustainable housing, giving them opportunities to improve basic life skills and training to become economically independent. Thank you for your help with this need.

Berkey College Fund Update

CollegeThis spring our congregation will have 12 young people attending Mennonite colleges. Each student is eligible for assistance of $500 for the fall semester from our college matching fund. Giving to this fund is wise because the colleges match all contributions dollar for dollar—and you get a tax deduction on your contribution. Very few investments double your money like this. We hope to raise $6,000 by December 1. As of November 10, we have $5,312 in the college fund. Please mark your contribution for the college fund and place it in the offering. Thank you!

Throwback Thursdays

Play along and see if you can spot anybody you know, and don't forget to like our page if you haven't already!

Getting to Know

Thomas Leonard

Thomas Leonard
My name is Thomas Leonard. I am from Columbus, Ohio. I am a junior at Goshen College studying Environmental Science with a focus in Sustainability. I am on the Track and Field team and I compete in high jump and long jump. I love sports, music, and I love trying out new things. I grew up going to Columbus Mennonite Church where Dan was the pastor and Peter and I have been best friends since we were babies!

Whether you are new or a charter member, we are continually learning to know each other and we want to get to know you more. It can be very simple, your name, what you do for a living and what you are interested in. You can view our newsletter archive for some examples. Interested in being featured? Let us know!

Did You Know?Shortly before the turn of the century, Michael and Patsy Sherer were commissioned by then pastor Richard Litwiller to find a new piano for the sanctuary. After seeing several possibilities, the winner was selected from an advertisement in the South Bend Tribune. It was in the home of an elderly man in LaPorte, who was absolutely delighted that it was going to a church.
