Lawrence Burkholder, edited by Myrna Burkholder will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 7, 9:30–10:30 a.m., Waltner Hall, Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary. This memoir, published by the Institute of Mennonite Studies (IMS), traces the development of Burkholder’s thought as it intersected with the events of his life — from a Mennonite upbringing in a small Pennsylvania town, through an upstate–New York pastorate, relief work in India and China, graduate study at Princeton, teaching at Goshen College and Harvard Divinity School, civil rights activism, and the presidency of Goshen College. To learn more, contact Barb Nelson Gingerich, IMS managing editor, 574.296.6239.

Christians and Immigration Event

What should Anabaptist-Mennonite Christians think about immigration and how should we engage the immigrants who are our neighbors? His approach can help the whole church see how and why we must respond in compassion to the immigrants in our communities. Phil & Connie

Phil and Connie Bauman

Note from Phil & Connie:
We spent four weeks in January and February at Camp Ithiel in Gotha, Florida which is near Orlando serving in a SOOP (Service Opportunities with Our Partners) assignment. SOOP is administered by MMN (Mennonite Mission Network).

Camp Ithiel is a Church of the Brethren camp. Camp Ithiel hosts retreats, weddings, several churches, some home schoolers, and summer camps for children and youth. There were about 10 couples volunteering with us. We helped clean the dorms and prepare meals. There were also ongoing projects to get the camp ready for the summer programs. These included spring cleaning the chapel, building an addition to a shed, making eight new bunk beds, making new storm windows for one of the dorms, painting dorm rooms, and removing invasive plants.

We took our RV and most of the volunteers also lived in an RV, either their own or one owned by the camp. It was a good group of people to work with. We did things as a group and also had time on our own.
