Dear friends in Christ of St. Edward the Martyr,

This year the Fourth Sunday in Lent (Laetare Sunday) coincides with another day that adds emphasis to this liturgical day. Laetare Sunday is a respite during the season of Lent; it's a brighter and more hopeful stop along this self-reflective, penitential and solemn way. And while we inch along this somewhat darker season to the brightness of Easter morning, Laetare Sunday reveals this glimmer of hope by changing liturgical colors from purple to rose. And we all know that a blooming rose signals the coming spring, and spring signals hope and joy.

This week is also Daylight Savings Time, where we spring ahead one hour at 2am on Sunday morning. And as we switch into this new timezone, we gain an extra hour of sunlight, which also signals that the blooming and beautiful season is fast upon us.

So, please remember to adjust your clocks and watches so you can come and celebrate the Fourth Sunday in Lent at 11:00am with us, the one hopeful pitstop the liturgical calendar provides us as we walk the way of the cross to the darkness of Good Friday.

In Jesus and Mary,
Fr. Matthew
