Welcome to the September
e-news bulletin

Hello and welcome to the September newsletter from Carers Leeds.
The air is feeling crisper, we're all navigating changes as people return to work places, schools and colleges and we're already starting to look ahead to an uncertain winter and of course think about the big day .... Carers Rights Day on 26 November.
Wait, did you think I meant another big day starting with a C?    It's too early for that, even for this little elf!
In this edition we're inviting carers to an info session with Advonet, we put a spotlight on our working carers service and we hear from our mental health carer support service ahead of World Mental Health Day. Take a look...

Service spotlight

We have a wide range of specialist services to meet the individual needs of every carer in Leeds and each month we shine the spotlight on one of our services.

This month we'd like to tell you about our working carers and employers service.
1 in 7 employees are balancing unpaid care with work and our service provides specialist support, advice and training to employers and carers in the workplace.
Take a look at this short video to find out how we've been working with employers and working carers during the last few challenging months:

World Mental Health Day

We provide support for carers who look after someone experiencing mental health difficulties, and also work with carers to improve their own health and wellbeing.
What better time than World Mental Health Day (10 October) to remind ourselves that we must not neglect our own health, whilst caring for someone else.

Take a look at this blog from our mental health carer support team for more info about our specialist support for those who look after a someone living with mental health difficulties:

Are you missing out on your state pension...

Married women who reached state pension age before April 2016 could be missing out on £1,000s of extra state pension – and can now claim more.
For more information and details on what to do if you think you might be missing out, visit the Money Saving Expert website: (Thank you to Age UK Leeds for bringing this to our attention).

Could you be our next Trustee?

Our Board of Trustees lead the organisation and provide good governance in accordance with the legal requirements for charities.  The skills and expertise within the board help us deliver the best service for carers in Leeds.

We now have a vacancy for a new Trustee. We are looking for someone with an understanding of charities and experience and knowledge of unpaid carers. We would particularly welcome applications from those with experience in finance, or law. To apply or for more details, visit:
