Savouring A Few Summer Days
“Summer is the time when one sheds one's tensions with one's clothes, and the right kind of day is jeweled balm for the battered spirit. A few of those days and you can become drunk with the belief that all's right with the world.”
… Ada Louise Huxtable
Traditionally, the summer issues of HEN are my time to replenish - where content is slim and rest time is large.
This summer, I will be working for most of it. I have a great opportunity to teach a summer course on conflict in organizational settings at a local University – so I am excited and grateful.
At the same time, summer for me is often a time to go at a slower pace. So this summer I will experiment with finding the replenishment of summer in smaller pockets.
As may be the case for some of you. A Saturday when friends and kids head out for a hike and an afternoon wandering around shops. Setting out for a 24-hour camping trip – sleeping on the beach and drinking fresh waterfall water. Taking just one day to hang out at a weekend music festival.
This summer will be a study in living larger in small spaces.
These smaller moments are meant to fuel a general state of reflection that I love about summer. As Sam Keen has said, where “Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability.”
Enjoy your summer!
This summer, I asked HEN readers to respond to a few questions about where they struggled in tough conversations, what outcome they wanted, and what burning questions they had.
In the course of doing these interviews, one person said they’d love to have two or three things that could help them immediately with a tough conversation.
In response - and as a thank you – I’ve created a free report containing some of my best tips arising as a result of people’s burning questions!
If you’d like a copy, simply click here.
Feel free to pass this along to your friends as well!
Happy summer reading!
