Los Angeles, CA, January 21, 2015 – Los Angeles four-piece Chicano Batman announce they will be performing at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, CA. The band will also act as tour support on select dates for Jack White on the Jan 24 - Feb 4 leg of his Lazaretto tour, kicking off this weekend. These performances will be in support of their second full length album “Cycles of Existential Rhyme” released in February 2014 on LA-based label El Relleno Records.

Listen to “Cycles of Existential Rhyme” here:

Chicano Batman’s music draws from a broad range of 60s and early 70s Brazilian bossa nova/samba, spacey psychedelia, and slow-jam soul with a pinch of surf-rock cumbia. The quartet uniforms their act in retro ruffled-tuxedo shirts in the likeness of Latin soul groups such as Los Angeles Negroes, Los Pasteles Verdes and Los Bukis.
Lead singer Bardo Martinez describes the starting point of their unique and diverse sound as “music that was in our parent’s collections, music that we were probably conceived to.” The group picked-up where other transcendent Los Angeles “Latin” groups like Thee Midniters (1960s) or Los Lobos (1980s) left off, while creating a whole new universal sound with many influences from all around the globe.

Martinez continues in a recent feature interview with, "For me, it’s important to represent a good band but at the same time, its more about communicating the spirit. I believe we’re connected to the line of people who have lived a certain way for thousands of years. Our ancestors who worked the land. No one knows why we feel a certain way. We feel things differently. There’s something essential there. There’s a spirit there that hasn’t died."

Coachella and the Jack White Lazaretto tour will be a prime showcase in which music fans can feel the spirit through Chicano Batman’s live, energetic and dynamic performances; Wax Poetic’s Magazine writer Allen Thayer’s commentary of a live Chicano Batman performance noted recently, “alternating between psychedelic rancheras, turbo-charged cumbias and Blaxploitation-meets–Sir Douglas Quintet soul fusions, a Chicano Batman show has more changes than James Brown had sequined capes."

About Chicano Batman (
Chicano Batman is your sonic outlet from the monotonous back into the soul. Ethnomusicologists in their own right, they are students of rhythm, globe-trotting on a quest to reclaim and represent the musical roots of their past generations. Drawing from a broad range of 60s and early 70s Brazilian bossa nova and samba, spacey psychedelia, slow-jam soul with a pinch of surf-rock cumbia, the quartet uniforms their act in retro ruffled-tuxedo shirts from a thrift store near you. Chicano Batman is more than a musical force but an adventurous and opinionated superhero who feeds off of community, afro-centricity and bolillos, on a mission to bring the overlooked to the forefront.
