What are people making with Baah Sequoia yarn, you ask? Well, our very own LambShoppe manager, Whitney Elinoff's Chain Link Hat takes just one skein, size 13 needles, and an afternoon (or evening with some vino). A few of you might have seen one or even made it yourself. The people at Baah Yarn caught wind of this LambShoppe favorite and created a special dye; Peppermint Bark, inspired by the Chain Link Hat. Featured on Baah's Holiday card and other promotional flyers. Nothing like some shameless self promotion.
Sooo.... we might have gone a little overboard

We've Got New Yarn

and lots of it!
Our semiannual sale made plenty of room for some new items. Unfortunately, we have so much new stuff that if I shared all my favorites, this would become a novel instead of a newsletter. So let me tell you about a few of my favorite DK-Weight yarns, fresh off the boat!
Shibui always has good stuff, but this season they really came through with some great designs using their newest yarn Nest. With a soft inner core of luscious wool and alpaca wrapped in contrasting strands of fine wool, this DK weight yarn embodies coziness. Knit solo, doubled, or with other Shibui yarns for added texture and warmth. If I can be honest it didn't do anything for me in the skein, but seeing it knit-up in these patterns really changed my mind. Check out Clark and Barton and tell me that doesn't make you want to cast on tomorrow.
Berroco always has something new. This season they are launching Liana and it is unlike anything we have had roll through these doors in a while.

Linen and nylon combine to create the silky feel of Berroco Liana! This DK-weight yarn works up loosely for lightweight summer garments and accessories, with beautiful variegated colors.
Fatto in Italia (that's fancy-speak for "made in Italia")

Come by and check out our Liana sample -- Martinique Shawl.

I know it's not a new yarn, but it sure is new to our shoppe. Fibre Co's Arranmore Light has finally graced these hallowed walls with its presence. This yarn is spun in a mill that traces its roots to the homespun tweed industry of 19th century County Donegal. Blending cashmere and silk with a fine merino wool creates an authentic tweed yarn of the finest quality. It's a great sticky DK-weight wool with a little bit of luxury in the mix to take that traditional sweater to the next level. Whitney just cast-on Hugo with this yarn and is loving it! Come by the shoppe and she'll tell you all about it.
Next up to bat is an all new offering: Amano's Sami is 100% organic Peruvian pima cotton, and it's so new they don't even have the details up on Ravelry yet. The pattern support for this yarn is so cute you'll want to sacrifice your first born, but you'll have to come in the shoppe and check out the Amano spring-summer 2020 catalog to pick out your new favorite child. My personal favorite: the little guy in the bobble sweater. EEEE eeee CUTENESS OVERLOAD

Bang Out a Sweater
BIG
Needles, BIG Yarn, BIG Time Fun!

I think this is going to be BIG!

The annual mad dash to knit a sweater in the shortest month of the year… and with an extra day this year, I think we have a chance of finishing. LambShoppers have really stepped up to the challenge, with over 20 people signed up thus far it is going to be a party! Whitney and Gerry are the mad knitters in charge of this KAL and we are so excited to bind-off so we can wear this comfy sweater in sweater-weather.

Update: We are well on our way! Both Gerry and Whitney are 7 skeins in and loving this project. Today, from 5-7PM we are meeting with all of our other Knit-A-Long-ers to hang out and to share tips and tricks of what we have learned thus far. Just in case you have a bad case of the FoMos - there is still room! If you are interested in hearing more, give us a call or come by the shop and check out Rowan Big Wool and other options. This will be a blast!

Don't forget to follow our progress on Instagram #bangoutasweater2020.

Hey Jo! What's on your needles?

I just bound-off the Tumbling Block Afghan for my living room. I used a total of 7 skeins of HiKoo's Sueño in "Slated" -- I have to say it blocked-out beautifully. And with the reversible design there is no wrong-side, this project is allllll right(side). Looks great, feels great, this project is a homerun!

And even though I just bound-off a large project with Sueño, I also cast-on a new project with the same yarn. Certainly a smaller project, Luffe Mittens have been a lot of fun to start. I decided to go down a needle size, knitting the mittens on a size 3 to make them nice and tight. These might look like ordinary mittens, but they have something special - a unique thumb gusset that perfectly matches the anatomy of the hand. But wait, there's more! I'm knitting the lining in Fibre Co's Road to China Light. This yarn is so soft and scrumptious, I cannot wait to finish.
