REGISTRATION OPEN FOR TRUSTWORTHY ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE (TAI4ES) SUMMER SCHOOL

The annual TAI4ES Summer School will take place June 27-30. The program will provide hands-on experience to get attendees up to speed on how to develop trustworthy AI for the earth and environmental sciences. Registration is due by 5 p.m. MT on June 23.

COMET published a new lesson on MedED, Microwave Analysis of Tropical Cyclones, 2nd Edition, that introduces forecasters to the use of microwave image products for observing and analyzing tropical cyclones.
Registration is open for the 27th annual Community Earth System Model Workshop, which is being held virtually from June 13-16.
Nominations are being accepted for the UCAR Board of Trustees and governance committees. The deadline is June 20.

This summer’s western wildfire season is likely to be more severe than average but not as devastating as last year’s near-record, according to an experimental prediction method developed by NCAR scientists.

A 3d-printed storm surge sensor

PROJECT TO BRING AFFORDABLE 3D-PRINTED STREAM, SNOW, AND STORM SURGE SENSORS TO REMOTE COMMUNITIES

A UCAR project called 3D-PAWS is adding a new set of remote-sensing capabilities that will measure streamflow, storm surges, and snowfall depth to its suite of successful 3D-printed weather stations. This initiative will bring low-cost remote sensing instruments to the world’s “unseen” areas.

NCAR SEEKS INPUT FROM MSI AND HBCU FACULTY ON COMPUTING RESOURCE ACCESS

NCAR's Computational and Information Systems Lab seeks input to understand the experiences of MSIs and HBCU faculty and students in using, or not using, our supercomputing resources. This includes resources such as allocation of supercomputing time, access to Earth system science-related datasets, supercomputer-hosted teaching tools, and research. Faculty, staff, and students in Earth system sciences and related areas, including but not limited to environmental and climate justice, computer science, physics, and mathematics, are all invited to participate in upcoming focus groups.
