Halkyn Walking Festival July 14th – 20th

Halkyn Walking Group celebrate their 10th Anniversary this year with a week-long walking festival, taking in the best of this special area’s rich heritage, history, wildlife and stunning views. Surely there is no other walking festival that includes lead mines, hillforts, secret chemical warfare plants, limestone kilns, castles and not forgetting buffalos all in one!

Loggerheads Country Park welcomed the Prestatyn  Vision impaired group when they came on a walk earlier this month.  For many it was a first time visit and for some a long awaited return trip.  It was especially memorable for Mildred who organized the trip she remembered planting the trees behind the classroom over 60 years ago.
After a lovely walk around the park it was time for afternoon tea in Caffi Florence.
The group are already planning their return trip for next year.

Fighting Cancer Together

Troedio Clwyd Walks, Macmillan and Cancer Research have joined forces in the fight against cancer.
Lymphoedema patients from the Colwyn Bay area are taking part in a health walk pilot scheme.  One of the most common causes of Lymphoedema is obesity. And it is well known that the promotion of a healthy lifestyle helps patients to control and manage their
illness. Thirty patients signed up to join the Group and twelve took part in the first walk in September 2013 along Rhos on Sea Promenade. Although extremely challenging, most managed to walk 3 miles, resulting in a huge sense of achievement by all.
Jackie Legg a member of the group and Lymphoedema patient said ‘I now walk unaided with better posture and not hunched over like an old woman.  I no longer get the lower back ache that I use to suffer .  I have also shed just over 30lbs in weight since Christmas, I really couldn’t feel any better’.
