As we enter into this fall season, I'm reminded of God's goodness to us, through you, particularly these past two years. Your courageous and faith-filled giving during this period of global uncertainty has made room for many wonders.

Dear <<First Name>>,
Thank you for making your first gift to WOW! in 2020-2021!  Your trust and generosity has helped care for those who are weary in this season of ministry and gave space for many to safely explore their questions with God.  Your partnership has made so much possible! We are excited to share some highlights and words from participants in these past 6 months:

MINISTRY UPDATES
  • CARING FOR PASTORS & ASIAN WOMEN: In response to the rise in anti-Asian crime, we invited Asian women in ministry to a roundtable discussion to share openly how they have been impacted and are experiencing ministry in this season. It was a powerful time of sharing and healing as listening to one another gave words and awareness to feelings that had not been given room to surface and breathe until then. This has led us to establish a monthly pastoral prayer gathering (for women pastors from all backgrounds) led by May.
The 1.5 hour was like drinking from the sweet fountain of Jesus. Dear sisters, run that good race... you are NOT alone... I thank you very much for your stories today.  Praise be to God.
  • CHURCH LEADERSHIP SUPPORT: We came alongside 2 churches in MA and NY to care for their leadership teams by offering group spiritual direction over the course of 6 months as a way to deepen their relation to one another, to God, and to their communities. A majority of the leaders experienced spiritual direction for the first time in this setting.
I see Jesus more!
[God is] knitting the hearts of the deacons together through these Spirit-led, WOW-led engagements
  • SOWING SEEDS OF LOVE/SILENT RETREATS: This was a giving campaign we ran to celebrate Women's month giving people the opportunity to purchase a gift of spiritual care for women who have impacted them. As part of this, we've hosted 4 half day silent retreats (4 hours each), where 14 of the 22 retreatants experienced WOW! for the first time through this gift. One mom was so impacted by the retreat, she bought 2 for her friends with young children as gifts immediately after.
God is telling me to let go and release my desire for my own dreams to Him, to open up my hands and let go of my fears for my children, for myself and just trust in Him. It was very touching for me to realize all these fears and dreams and hopes I had, can be released to God.
  • ONGOING RYTHYMS OF CARE: We hosted a virtual Soul Care cohort reunion in June to hear from our 2020 cohort friends how God has been present in their lives, families, and ministries since our cohorts have ended. We will begin our 2021 cohort in October with 8 women ministers, including our first international participant from South Africa.
It was a struggle to figure out who God wants me to be instead of what God wants me to do. Discovering a more profound identity as Asian and a woman; to bring that identity with me as part of my story. I have been learning to pace myself as well. “No is a complete sentence!”
  • ROOFTOP GATHERINGS: In collaboration with Hope Church NYC, over 35 women ministers from the NYC area gathered for friendship, connection, and refreshment in the 2 summertime gatherings we hosted.

CAPACITY UPDATE
  • BOARD: We welcomed Don Choi as Board Treasurer in September; we are thrilled he's decided to join us in this capacity! He has gotten to know WOW! since 2019 through group spiritual direction and our discernment ministry.
  • STAFF: After almost a decade as a ministry, the majority of our staff will receive full-time salaries starting this October! This is a huge leap of faith, made possible by the growth of monthly giving commitments and deepening our trust that God will continue to grow and sustain WOW!'s reach.

PERSONAL UPDATES
This has been a year of merging & purging... It was grief as well as newness to come.
(this was said by one of our Soul Care friends, but very much captures our team's experiences)
  • MAY: May’s daughter, Sam, is finishing up her last semester at college and May has taken on more hours and responsibilities at WOW! in pastoral care. She has also been busy with discernment sessions from the Sowing Seeds of Love campaign along with offering ongoing discernment individually and at our silent retreats. All of this while leading her church plant (one of the few, if not, only female-led in NYC Chinatown!)
  • MANNI: Manni’s daughter, Tobi, graduated high school and started college during the pandemic. Manni’s responsiveness to help others has not waned even in the midst of managing and caring for her own family. She’s been out and about delivering care packages for birthdays, losses, etc.and helping care for and meet the physical needs of friends whose health has been affected throughout the pandemic. She has taken on a new title here at WOW! that we think suits who she has been all along: Community Care Director.
  • ERIKA: Erika and her husband, Jeff, transitioned out of their church community of the past 5 years into a season of healing and renewing hope. Hope in the beauty and wonder of the Church being present, responding, and loving differently. After being let go from her full time work of 10 years, Erika focused her energy on developing and leading WOW! with Manni and May. In the meantime, the Lord opened new doors in ministry for Jeff, where we will be joining a new church community in NYC this fall.
If you’ve made it this far down, THANK YOU again! We could not do any of this without your generosity and partnership. With our increased capacity and recent restructuring, we hope to be better about sending more timely updates. Our ministry is very intimate and personal, so please feel free to reach out directly to any of us!

In November and December, we will be focusing on telling the stories of many of our participants and partners. If you haven’t yet
, please give us a follow on the Social Media (links below!)

We would love to connect and know you better!
