Helping America's Heroes

The highlighted event this issue was conducted for Pisco Porton, a wine importer, in Houston.  Military families received bicycles and a donation was made to the Homes for our Troops organization in honor of an attending Purple Heart recipient.  Click here to view a video.  We were told by the CEO of the company that it "was not only one of the most educational team building events I have ever attended, but also one of the most emotionally moving."

Team Work - Wishing Won't Make it So

True team work doesn't just happen and as the title suggests wishing alone doesn't make it happen. Teammates must work on team dynamics to elevate a group of co-workers into a highly functioning team. Each member must have a place and function on the team and realize he/she has an important role in the success of the team.  To learn more  click here for the full article.

Ice Breaker of the Month

One Word Story - This exercise trains group narrative. The players sit or stand in a circle. Instructions are: “We are going to tell a story one word at a time. As the story makes its way around the circle, each player provides one word of a sentence.” This is more difficult than it sounds. A warm up exercise is having the group tell a familiar fairytale. Summarize the practice story before they start.  After the practice ask for suggestions for a person and situation… like a pride of lions flying to New York for a family reunion at the Bronx Zoo.  At the conclusion of the story ask the group if they can see/understand the reasons why their story worked or why they did not.
