Dear <<First Name>>,

Again this week, I will substituting for Marie Marchand, the director of Sangha Yoga Collective in Downtown Lowell. On Tuesday, I'll be teaching Marie's All–Levels Kripalu class at 6 pm. While I can claim no Kripalu background, I do appreciate Marie's emphasis on compassion and inquiry. I invite students to self–compassion, and to experience their own unique practices. What sensations do we notice in āsana? Poses are dynamic: what effects do complementary actions have on our unique expression? As I have written, I think that the cultivation of awareness is something that distinguishes yoga from "mere" fitness.

I will also be subbing for Linda Moran's Slow Flow Yoga classes on Wednesday evening at 6 pm, and Saturday at 9 am. This is a real treat for me because Linda and I have mutual appreciation for our our teaching styles, which we see as similarly inspired, including by an instructor we have in common.

This week, I will be combining some post–holiday detox poses like juicy twists. But we'll also be doing some core and balance work to build endurance and equipoise in this busy time of year.

It would be wonderful to see you, <<First Name>>, and to meet new friends who are regulars of these classes.

I also want to remind you of  Sangha Yoga Collective's Holiday Potluck on Friday December 19. We'll start at 5:30 pm with some round robin yoga taught by the studio's teachers, followed by a potluck at 7 pm. Talk about mutual appreciation! Come sample some free yoga and food. This all–levels class is a great way to meet all my colleagues and build community. Feel free to bring some simple food or snacks to share, but it's not necessary. There will be some great door prizes and maybe some other surprises....

If possible please RSVP to mjmarchand@gmail.com or feel free to just drop by last minute as well.

While I had wrapped up the Noontime Nourish last month, I'm excited for these chances to sub, and looking forward to the studio's exciting new schedule coming in January. Stay tuned for some news from the studio. Here's a preview.

Richard snowshoeing in Maine
Richard has been practicing yoga since 2005, and Anusara yoga from 2009–2013. In April 2013 he completed a 200 hour Full Radiance yoga teacher training with Sara Davidson Flanders (ERYT-500) in Rhode Island. He also has studied extensively with former Certified Anusara Teacher Marc St. Pierre (ERYT-500), and has participated in workshops with Todd Norian, Desirée Rumbaugh, Sianna Sherman, Amy Ipolitti, Christina Sell, and John Friend. He has recently completed the Neelakantha (Blue Throat) meditation initiation with Paul Muller Ortega, Ph.D. In 2004, he returned to teaching sociology at UMass Lowell and other area colleges, after having spent 15 years in the software industry.

Richard teaches yoga for the same reason he likes to cook for others: like the meals, the yoga taste that much better when shared.
