June 12 was the most horrific day in the history of the City of Orlando. And yet, I stand here today even more proud of our community because they came together, united to support the families and friends of the victims.

We learned of the heroic acts of our Orlando Police Department as well as other law enforcement, as well as our citizens as hundreds of lives were saved throughout the night. And the medical personnel that saved so many lives that were transported to the hospital are heroes.

We will not be defined by the act of a cowardly hater. We will be defined by how we respond, how we treat each other. Read full letter

Seven Valencia College Students Among the Victims in Pulse Shootings

Valencia College would like to express heartfelt sympathy to all of our community members who are coping with the loss or injury of a loved one due to the tragic shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. We join their families and friends in mourning the loss and celebrating the lives of: Amanda Alvear, Oscar A. Arancena-Montero, Cory James Connell, Mercedez Marisol Flores, Juan Ramon Guerrero, Jason Benjamin Josaphat and Luis Omar Ocasio-Capo. Full Story

UCF student, alumnus among 49 killed in Pulse shooting

UCF is mourning the loss of a student and an alumnus. Student Juan Ramon Guerrero and alumnus Christopher Andrew Leinonen lost their lives in the deadly massacre that was the Pulse nightclub shooting. They were among the 49 civilians killed early Sunday. Guerrero, 22, was a pre-finance major, and his boyfriend Leinonen, 32, received his bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2007 and master's in 2009. Goodwill Seeks Donations for Food Drive to Benefit Second Harvest
Now through the end of June, shoppers and donors at Goodwill Industries of Central Florida can help fight hunger in Central Florida by donating nonperishable food items for Second Harvest Food Bank during the fifth annual “Fill the Need” partnership. Donations will be collected at Goodwill’s retail stores and Donation Xpress Centers throughout Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Brevard, Volusia and Lake counties. Read More

Summit Broadband Brings 1 Gig Internet to The Vue of Lake Eola
Summit Broadband announced the introduction of industry-leading 1 gig high-speed internet service, as well as high-definition television service, to residents of The Vue, a 36-story, 375-unit high luxury condominium development located in downtown Orlando. This is the first downtown residential high rise to have 1 gig service in Orlando. Read More

West Orange Political Alliance Makes Additional Endorsements in Local Races

The West Orange Political Alliance (WOPA), a leading voice in seeking candidates who positively affect growth and economic development in West Orange County, announced support of incumbents in two races and other newcomers who have the understanding of what it will take to be effective local and state leaders.
The WOPA board endorsed Pam Gould for her re-election to the OCPS Board District 4 seat. Ms. Gould is a board member and award winner of the West Orange Chamber of Commerce, as well as a recipient of numerous community awards.
In addition, WOPA has endorsed candidates in Florida House of Representatives 44, 45 and Senate 15. The board endorsed Representative Eric Eisnaugle, a Windermere area resident and strong champion of our community, once again for FL House Rep. 44. Joining him for the first time for an endorsement in Senate District 15 is Peter Vivaldi, another Windermere area resident. Kamia Brown, a former legislative aide to several state representatives, also earned the board’s endorsement for FL House Rep. 45. Read full press release

WOCC Holds Trustee Luncheon

The West Orange Chamber held a Trustee Luncheon sponsored by Eton Bridge Insurance and Financial Solutions and hosted by The Vineyard, Wine Bar and Healthy Bistro. The private luncheon featured Special Guest Speaker UCF University Relations Assoc. Vice President Fred Kittinger. Mr. Kittinger gave an update on the upcoming UCF Downtown Campus.
