Donation of €1000 from PPU funds to VdeP

The PPU recently donated €1000 to the Society of St.Vincent de Paul to assist those most in need during this worldwide crisis. We hope the donation will help them continue their great work and is a gesture on your behalf to a charity which has a long and close relationship with Crescent College.

CRESCENT BOOK CLUB

You can pre-order a new book by Jim Maker SJ to be published in mid-September and available from Messenger Publications https://www.messenger.ie/product-category/new-releases/
and on Amazon in Paperback and for Kindle
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pathways-Decision-Ignatius-Jim-Maher/dp/1788122704

The book is an attempt to help people understand the spirituality of the Jesuits in an accessible way. It’s especially aimed at people who have had or currently have contact with the Jesuits either through schools or other contexts. It is hoped that it will help parents of students, staff, and anyone associated with Jesuit schools or other Jesuit works to learn more about what makes Jesuits tick. It addresses some of the key points of the spirituality of St Ignatius of Loyola which inform the ethos of Jesuit Schools. As our students learn about the teaching and practises of the Jesuits, parents will find this book helpful in discovering what their children are being taught! It will also help individuals and families to rediscover ordinary ways of renewing spirituality during these Covid times when sacramental participation will continue to be limited. The spirituality that inspires the Jesuits is amazingly optimistic and life-affirming, helping us to pay attention to the traces of God's presence in the activities we take-for-granted, and this book will help to rekindle a faith that many of us have grown out of and affirm faith for those of us for whom it is still a priority. Even though this book is for a universal readership, Crescent College Comprehensive SJ and Limerick get a look in!

Mikel O'Riordan (Crescent Class of 1968) writes and publishes under the name Michael Cassidy (he claims, largely because he is still afraid of his sister Deirdre).

His first book was published in 2017 called 'The Longfellah's Son: An Almost True Irish Story' has been followed by a sequel, 'More Almost True Irish Stories' published on March 17th, 2020 just as lockdown commenced.
