Crescent Refurbishment and new Science Lab project underway
Crescent College Comprehensive S.J. is delighted to announce that the Department of Education has approved their new building project which has begun since June. This building project will incorporate a full refurbishment of the existing school and the construction of five new state of the art Science Laboratories. The project which will be rolled out on a phased basis by the approved contractor Connack with Thompsons Architects as the Design team should be completed by December 2023. The full refurbishment will include the library, central area and all other areas of the school. This will be the first refurbishment of the school since it was established in Dooradoyle, where Crescent College Comprehensive SJ has provided Jesuit education since 1972.
Principal Diarmuid Mullins stated “that this €12.5 million project is a fantastic chance to redevelop our school campus, I would like to thank the generosity of the Jesuit order and its provincial Fr. Moloney in making a significant financial contribution to the science block project which underscores the Jesuit orders commitment to providing an environment for academic excellence in Limerick”. The Science Block will be positioned at the rear of the school connecting to the Junior Corridor with the old science labs allowing for a redevelopment of that wing to increase classrooms and a multi-purpose area for students.
Principal Mullins’s said “it is my desire to put in place the infrastructure that will allow all our students to have the best possible learning environment over the next number of years. In addition to this development, we hope through the generosity of our alumni move to a next stage of campus development which will take place after this project has been concluded. I would like to thank our Board of Management Chair Helen O'Donnell and my predecessor Karin Fleming for all their hard work in progressing this project to the construction stage. It is an exciting time for all present and past students to see the school redevelopment taking place”.
Outlining further plans, Principal Mullins noted that “after this development is complete in December 2023, the Board of Management are hoping to complete the campus development by focusing on redeveloping the Grit Pitch area and have already received commitments of financial support from alumni. There will be more information regarding this project in due course”.
In closing Principal Mullins said “we are now inviting past pupils who would like to help the school in the next phase of our development to contact myself at email@example.com if they have experience or expertise that they might like to share with our school building subcommittee”.
