You can't judge a book by its cover .........

.... or for Royal Ark Mariners, a Mason by his habiliments.
How many times have we sat next to someone at a meeting and wondered what they did when they weren't in 'Lodge'? Many will instantly recognise Ralph Craig, whether that be in London, Kent or the South & East Caribbean - after all he's been the Founder of 15 different units within the progressive Orders. But how many know of his pioneering work in the field of mental health within the NHS over the last 48 years?

Romania - what's in a name?

Pictured left to right: V.W.Bro. Cristian Mihutoiu (Grand Inspector),  W.Bro. Cristian Lepere, Primus Master & R.W.Bro. David Powell Prov.G.M. (Monmouthshire)
On Saturday 18 January R.W.Bro. David Powell ventured across to the Zodiac Palace, Bucharest, as consecrating officer for the newest Mark Lodge in the recently constituted Inspectorate of Romania.
The Lodge was Titu Maiorescu No.2017, and is the latest in a line of Lodges named after famous Romanian figures - not necessarily Freemasons.
But who was Titu Maiorescu? Apparently, he was a Romanian literary critic and politician, founder of the Junimea Society. As a literary critic, he was instrumental in the development of Romanian culture in the second half of the 19th century. Now you know, and if you're interested in the titles of other units in the Inspectorate of Romania, check out

Two 'Grand Masters' for the Price of One

Pictured left to right: R.Dist.Comp. Paul Clement P.Dep.G.S., R.Dist.Comp. Roderick Jones Prov.G.S., & M.Dist.Comp. Ian Currans Grand Summus
… although, to be pedantic, one's actually a Grand Summus.
The occasion was the Provincial Grand Senatus of West Wales on Saturday 25 January in Camarthen, when Grand Master of Knights Templar,
M.E. & S.Kt. Paul Clement, G.C.T.was in attendance.
Once again, a wonderful example of the progressive and companion Orders of Freemasonry supporting each other.

Also in attendance were V.E.Kt. John Bonomy P.1st Gt.Con, Banner Bearer for the dedication, and taking a day off from his duties as Grand Master of
Royal & Select Masters, R.E.Kt. Kessick Jones K.C.T., P.Prov.Prior.

Facebook Post of the Week

Whilst not specifically associated with our Orders, we nevertheless clearly value the compassion and respect of such memorials.
Organisational Changes - an update from the Grand Secretary

I was delighted to welcome Paul Merryfellow to the team at Mark Masons’ Hall in the autumn of 2018, as an Assistant Grand Secretary, filing the role left vacant following the retirement of Jonathan Roberts just a few months earlier. During the last fourteen months or so, Paul has been responsible for the day to day running of the Order of the Secret Monitor and the Ancient and Masonic Order of the Scarlet Cord as well as having oversight of our Registrations, Publications and Charities teams. Paul has now decided the time is right to pursue other career opportunities and has stepped down from his post with immediate effect. I wish him well in his future endeavours and thank him for his contribution.
The process of recruiting Paul’s successor will begin next week so look out for details of the role and its responsibilities and how to apply.

#Friday Feeling
It's good to feel liked and followed - Mark Masons' Hall and our Grand Secretary are no exception. One of the very powerful ways of building awareness and consideration towards our ten Orders is to establish a presence on social media - Facebook and Twitter are a good start - and to have that conversation with your members and potential candidates.
We would also like to share our appreciation of the great work you are all doing - please email us on communications@mmh.org.uk with your Facebook and Twitter details. This will ensure that we like, share, follow and retweet in return - all emails will be acknowledged.
Thank you.
