In Memoriam - Stephen Michael Ayres, JP

He was born and bred in North London. Following a successful career in the hospitality industry - rising to Director of Personnel with a major hotel chain – he 'retired' and became General Manager of the Clerkenwell Masonic Centre, while continuing to sit as a Magistrate - culminating in becoming Chairman of the Harringay Bench.
Stephen took his first steps into the Progressive Orders of Freemasonry on 24 January 1980 when he was advanced in King Solomon's Quarries Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 828 in London. From there he joined most of the Orders administered from Mark Masons’ Hall and rose to prominence in several, particularly as Past Grand Junior Warden and President of the Executive Committee in the Allied Masonic Degrees;  Provincial Grand Supreme Ruler for Essex in the Order of the Secret Monitor; Past Grand Chancellor and President of the Executive Committee in the Royal and Select Masters and Grand Chancellor in the Scarlet Cord.
Away from MMH Stephen was Grand Master of The Masonic Order of the Pilgrim Preceptors and had also been Provincial Grand Master for the Provincial Grand Lodge of The City of London in the Royal Order of Scotland. In the Craft, Stephen had just received notification of a promotion to Past Junior Grand Deacon from Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies and was Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies in the Royal Arch.
His Masonic memberships spread across several Provinces and he was well known as a splendid ritualist and strong supporter of multiple Masonic Units. He was a good friend and mentor to many Freemasons and worked tirelessly for the benefit of our Orders. Stephen will be a greatly missed member of our Masonic family.

#Friday Feeling
It's good to feel liked and followed - Mark Masons' Hall and our Grand Secretary are no exception. One of the very powerful ways of building awareness and consideration towards our ten Orders is to establish a presence on social media - Facebook and Twitter are a good start - and to have that conversation with your members and potential candidates.
We would also like to share our appreciation of the great work you are all doing - please email us on communications@mmh.org.uk with your Facebook and Twitter details. This will ensure that we like, share, follow and retweet in return - all emails will be acknowledged.
Thank you.
