Weekly update for MCC Brighton

Greetings <<First Name>>, welcome to this week's newsletter!

What?

This week I am just plain confused, bewildered, perhaps even puzzled.

It seems that every time I turn around there is new guidance on what to do, how to do it, where to do it. Obviously, we all want to be safe and of course you cannot issue advice or guidance for every scenario possible but the latest thing I have read confuses me.

There is guidance that says for outdoor events, as long as you take precautions and there are less than 30 people, it's all good. Then I read that for singing in worship services, you have to be outdoors (no problem), you have to be professional singers (hmm, questions about that). It seems that if you are a group of professional singers (it stipulates paid work), you can sing in front of a congregation. If you are not professional you shouldn't.

Makes no sense to me at all, surely professional singers have greater projection when singing than us mere enthusiastic amateurs? Also, surely it is much more risky to have a group performing facing an audience than a congregation all facing the same way, with social distancing? Also, no mention of masks ..... so in my mind, a congregation, meeting outdoors for worship, wearing masks and facing in a single direction while observing social distancing, is the safest form of worship singing you can have.

The good news is, I am sure the guidance will eventually tie in together and these sorts of inconsistencies will be resolved.

In the meantime, i will be dancing, and enjoying worship like i always have, albeit with gloves on, mask on and keeping a few paces away from attendees.

Have a blessed, safe and joy-filled week.
