It's Important and It's FREE!!
Supporting Families in Northumberland and
Hate Crime Event Friday 6th November 2015

VoiCeS Northumberland warmly invites you to attend two FREE presentations on Friday 6th November 2015 in Cramlington.

You are welcome to attend both workshops or you may wish to come along to just one of them - the choice is yours!

Presentation 1 - Hate Crime - What is it and what can we all do about it?

A hate crime is any criminal offence or incident, which is perceived by the victim or any other person as being motivated by prejudice or hate, based on the person's real or perceived race, religious belief, sexual orientation, disability or transgender identity.

Hate crimes statistics across the UL are shocking, with a total of 52,028 crimes recorded in 2009, in which the offence was motivated by prejudice.  These crimes can have far more serious psychological  effect on the victims and the communities they represent than many other crimes.  This challenging presentation will address the following:
  • Understand the nature and extent of hate crime
  • Identify solutions to under-reporting of hate crime
  • Provide leadership, advice and guidance to staff and volunteers
  • Improve on partnership working
  • Know how to support victims of hate crime.

Presentation 2: Supporting Families in Northumberland - New Developments and Funding Opportunities

If you are a VCS organisation working to support children, young people and their families, your work may fall within the remit of Northumberland’s Supporting Families agenda (known nationally as Troubled Families).

Northumberland Supporting Families partnership is keen to further develop the involvement of the VCS in the programme in order to maximise the opportunities and choices for families to improve outcomes. This builds on local successes over the last three years in Northumberland where intensive support was provided for 650 families who had multi and complex problems with plans to help 2010 families over the next five years to make significant changes to their lives. Funding is soon to be available to VCS organisations to contribute to supporting families for 2016-2018.

Perhaps your organisation could support those changes?! Come along to this presentation and find out how you can get on board.

This informative presentation will address the following:
  • Learn about the current success stories
  • What funding is available to the VCS and how to apply
  • Plans for the future
  • Potted guide to the Supporting Families Partnership
  • Your questions answered...
