3 Points To Ponder

1.
“One cannot direct a boulder standing still. It must be rolling and moving in order for it to be directed. In the same way, one cannot change courses standing still. One must be moving to change direction.”

2.
“It is easy to focus on the big moments in our lives. Don’t miss the now because you are anxiously anticipating the momentous. Most of life happens in the little. Are you paying attention?”

3.
“Our identity shapes our worldview, but most don’t spend the time to figure out how our identity has been shaped. What are the influences on your life -- both past and present -- shaping who you will become tomorrow?”

1 Story of Impact

In 2016, Angi Fields started volunteering with Many Hands through Link Associates, a West Des Moines nonprofit organization providing a full continuum of services to help people with intellectual disabilities. Angi was special, not just because of her intellectual disabilities, but because she genuinely loved being around people, learning their names, and talking to anyone who came across her path. She arranged books, sorted hangers, cleaned fitting rooms, and swept the floors. It was because of Angi, her mother, Esther, started to shop at the store. Then, her mother and step-father also started to volunteer at the store. Volunteering at the store gave Angi a sense of worth beyond anything else her mother could have imagined. Little did Angi or her mother know what kind of influence they were having on others. On February 13, 2021, Angi passed away suddenly in her sleep. The stories of how Angi impacted people’s lives started to come forward. It became apparent that this special girl had a life well lived: one of warmth and friendliness, of caring and love. In a Lenten devotional, Angi wrote, “God will love us all the time. He will not dis-love us. I am glad for God’s love.” Through God’s love to her, she expressed her love for others. Well done, Angi. And we miss you.
