“We’ve sacrificed healthy rhythms for the urgency of having everything right now. In our lack of patience, we’ve driven away peace. Where in your life can you exhibit patience to invite in more peace?”
2.
“We were designed with a natural clock and calendar. The sun rises and sets. Plants bloom and die and bloom again. We are no different. We can’t go 100 mph all the time or we will burn out. How would you rate yourself at the ability to stop and pause?”
3.
“Fresh starts are a blessing. It is a new season with new possibilities bringing new energy. What needs a fresh start in your life? What can you do with intention to make this fresh start possible?”

“For the day we accept that we have chosen to choose our choices is the day we cast off the shackles of victimhood and are set free to pursue the lives we were born to live. Learn to master the moment of decision and you will live a life uncommon.” - Matthew Kelly

A few weeks ago, I sent my 14-year-old and 12-year-old back to school. This is always an exciting time, full of anticipation for what is going to happen, nerves around the unknown, and LOTS of pictures to mark the moment. Thank goodness for digital cameras and not the click-and-rewind cameras I grew up with. It is a fresh beginning for all involved — students, teachers, and parents. This is one thing I think our education system has gotten right, that we have a definitive start and stop. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found myself longing for the definitive start and stop of a school year, because without intention, life bleeds together. Yes, there are markers for the year, such as holidays, birthdays, and vacations, but for me, there isn’t a natural rhythm like there was when I was younger. Rhythms are healthy. It is the reason God created a sabbath on Sunday, a day to rest and reset. As my life has gotten busier, I tend to abuse the natural rhythm of life and I am worse because of it. How about you? How is your rhythm right now? Do you have intentional time to stop? What about an intentional time to start a new season? It takes intention to get our lives back to how we want to live and not let the urgent dictate our actions. Take some time thinking through your daily, monthly, and yearly rhythms. What needs to change to bring more peace into your life?
