(Santa Ana, CA) – Free seasonal flu shots for adults and children three years of age and older will be offered in the cities of Buena Park and Placentia as part of an annual series of emergency preparedness exercise. Vaccinations will be provided on a first-come first-serve basis between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, October 14 at the following locations:

Both sites will offer drive through and walk-up vaccination options. To receive a flu shot, participants should be feeling well on the day of the flu shot exercise and must complete a brief health screening to ensure they can safely receive a flu vaccine.

“As flu season approaches, this is a great opportunity for the public to get vaccinated while helping the Health Care Agency exercise our capabilities to distribute medications to the community in an emergency scenario,” said Dr. Eric Handler, Public Health Officer.

The exercise will help your community prepare for general health emergencies, and is a partnership of several local entities, including Orange County Health Care Agency and the cities of Placentia and Buena Park.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older get a yearly flu vaccine. Flu vaccine is especially important for infants, young children, pregnant women, adults over 50, and for those with chronic conditions. The flu virus is mainly spread through droplets from coughs and sneezes. Remember these important everyday steps to help stop the spread of germs: cover your cough with a sleeve or tissue, wash your hands often, and stay home if you are sick.
