New Internet Domains Present Challenge and Opportunity
Business gurus may tell you that the Chinese character for "danger" is made up of "challenge and opportunity." (It is not according to this professor of Chinese language.
) But what is a challenge and an opportunity this year is the launch of up to 1000 new domains (technically called "Top Level Domains or gTLDS). These new places on the net join .Com and .Net as ways to identify your business and brand. Extensions like .Club, .Photo, .Bike, .Builders and .Estate are some of the ones now "live," while .NYC, .Boston, .Law, .Hotel, and more are waiting in the wings. Companies like Citi, Apple, and Google will roll out .Citi, .Apple, and.Gmail, plus many more. Citi has stated they'll move all their web presence to .Citi sites with a multi-million dollar awareness campaign to back it.
There is an opportunity to get a "better" online name if your .Com name was taken in the past. But there's also the challenge of lots of new places for people to steal your online name, take your traffic and affect your online reputation and revenue. One entrepreneur I work with saw this challenge with large brands, and then it became more clear when a small business friend had her name taken and used improperly.
That's the germ of an idea that launched DomainSkate
. We help protect your name online with a PAR strategy - proactive, active, and reactive protection for your business name. Think of it like a credit lockdown and monitoring service, but for your internet brand. Many large companies use services that help with this monitoring, but none offer pricing and service for the small and mid-sized business.
Howard is now COO at DomainSkate after working with the company through Harbrooke for 2 years conceiving and launching this service. He's personally thrilled to announce the launch and wants to shout it from the rooftops to you - clients, friends and family.
Now you can get an extra free month to try out DomainSkate with code "DOMSK8" when you sign up. (All signups get one 1 month free, but you get 2 months.)
