Roar, Lion, Roar

A popular cheer at Columbia University sporting events, "Who Owns New York?" is an apt title for this update. We're proud to announce that Howard Greenstein, along with his co-faculty members Tom Watson and Marcia Stepanek will be presenting their "Wired Nonprofit" class this spring at Columbia University's MS in Fundraising Management. The team is thrilled to be taking the class to the next level, and to join an amazing group of faculty and administrators.

.NYC Brings Opportunity and Challenges

"Who owns NYC?" is also a great question, considering the launch of .NYC, a top level Domain similar to .Com or .Net on the Internet. .NYC is only one of over 375 domains that have launched this year, including .Club, .Restaurant, .Property, and more. While having a .NYC name may help a local business, it is likely that some businesses are experiencing another challenge - that someone has taken their name online. DomainSkate found the name of a prominent politician had beent taken in .NYC by a random person (and we notified the appropriate party.) DomainSkate has noticed that Cybersquatting is on the rise. Howard Greenstein is not only working with Harbrooke clients - he's COO of DomainSkate.
DomainSkate service protects businesses of every size by monitoring every domain that goes live, and alerting companies when they have a problem. We then guide customers to a solution. You can get an extra free month to try out DomainSkate with code "DOMSK8" when you sign up.  (All signups get one 1 month free, but you get 2 months.) Have any domain or online brand questions? Hit reply and let me know how we can help.
DomainSkate is also thrilled that we've been chosen to participate in The Next Web's Boost program at their December 10th event. We could use a vote from you towards our participation. Just click the icon next to DomainSkate and vote with your favorite social network. Thanks!

Giving Tuesday Should Leave No Kid Hungry

This Tuesday, December 2nd, is #GivingTuesday and Harbrooke Group is supporting #NoKidHungry! "No Kid Hungry" is an effort of the organization Share Our Strength to eliminate hunger for kids nationwide. (If you're not familiar with #GivingTuesday, my co-faculty Tom Watson does a great job discussing this year's breakout moment for the nonprofit movement.)
A few simple ways to participate:
1. Help us by lending your online voice. Sign up for the Thunderclap. With Thunderclap, you link your Twitter, Facebook and/or Tumblr account with it and on December 2 at 11am EST, the message you agree to will be sent out from your account - just go to http://bit.ly/NKHgivingtuesday (This is a one-time message they send on your behalf - it is safe.) Or you can just click to tweet this:

2. There's also a Twitter-thon Tuesday Dec 2nd, where people will be hosting chats every hour. Howard will be co-hosting the 11am Eastern hour, and asking for your donations.
3. Donate: You can visit my page at http://join.nokidhungry.org/goto/howardgr. The AMAZING thing about this effort is that all donations up to $50,000 will be matched by Hickory Farms. Please help me help #NoKidHungry blow out their fundraising goal. Thank you.

I'm Grateful
I'm grateful for you, my network, my friends, and my clients. Please send a note or reply to this email to get in touch and let me know what you're up to. Happy Holidays from Howard Greenstein and the Harbrooke Group!

Welcome to December

We had our first snow before Thanksgiving here in the NY area, a sign of a cold winter. But today's 50+ weather melted much of the ground cover and warmed us up in a positive way.
Before we start with Harbrooke and Howard news, please let us know what's new for you! We'd like to highlight some of our clients and friends in this newsletter in the future, and we'd like you to be a part of that.

Upcoming Speaking Engagements

The Next Web, December 10th, New York City
If you're attending, don't forget to visit Howard and the DomainSkate team at their booth!
