Focus on funding at Share's Open Day

Unsurprisingly, perhaps, a lack of support and money were major concerns cited by service users and carers at Share's Open Day last month.

Share Open Day January 2015It was therefore timely to have a number of presentations tackling this very topic at the Open Day. Thank you to all our speakers from Wandsworth Council, Hestia and Westminster Mind for their time, and for providing some insight into this important area of work for our visitors.

Care Act presentationAs well as presentations about Share and its services, talks included information about:
  • The Care Act, which comes into force in April 2015
  • The eligibility criteria and process for securing personal budgets
  • What happens after funding approval – third-party support
A copy of the presentations from the Open Day are available on Share's website.

If you were unable to attend Share's Open Day, and would like to arrange a visit for yourself or a client, email info@sharecommunity.org.uk or telephone 020 7924 2949.

Star trainee, Rachel, joins Share as staff

RachelThere were celebrations all round as we welcomed Rachel Simms to Share as a full-blown member of staff on 2nd February!

You will remember Rachel from previous newsletters as our star trainee in catering – so when a position came up in the Share Kitchen to help Chef and Catering Tutor, Kenny Anderson, she jumped at the chance to apply. And, following Share's normal HR procedures and interviews, we were delighted to be able to offer Rachel the position.

A hit with Share students, volunteers and staff alike, Rachel is taking this first step into employment by helping Kenny to keep the Share Kitchen spick and span, and working with Share Catering on external events as well. We are sure this practical work experience is going to be great for building Rachel's already very impressive CV.

We are very proud of what Rachel has achieved in her relatively short time at Share – so a big well done and many congratulations!
