Share's Evening in the Garden

A chance for us to say Thank You to Share's partners and supporters for their help over the past year, and to show off the great work Share students do as part of our social enterprises

A beautiful summer evening in a stunning garden with amazing food! Too many superlatives to be true? Let the photos speak for themselves...

Catering and Gardening teams with the Mayor

We couldn't do what we do without the help of those in the community working with us to make a difference for disabled people. So we wanted to say Thank You, and wanted everyone to see exactly how we help people learn, develop and enjoy life.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our summer party - it was lovely to see so many of you there - we very much hope that you enjoyed your evening with us and that you will stay in touch and follow our work with interest.

Mayor of Wandsworth, Cllr Stuart ThomThe Share party was one of the first public engagements for the new Mayor of Wandsworth, Cllr Stuart Thom, who we are delighted to report has chosen Share Community as one of  three charities for support during his mayoral year.

So it was particularly good to see both the Mayor and Jane Ellison, our local MP for Battersea, attending our party and supporting the work we do in the community.

Thank you for supporting ShareThere are many ways you can get involved with Share's work - for example, by providing work experience for one of our students, sponsoring an event or project, fundraising for us as an individual or business, volunteering your time and experience, and, of course, donations to further our work.

And please do come and visit us at Share – you can be sure a warm welcome awaits you and there is nothing like seeing our work for yourself.

If you can help Share in its work or would like to visit us, we'd love to hear from you. Email or telephone 020 7801 9821 to discuss how we might be able to work together to make a difference in our little community.

As always, don’t forget to Visit our website at, Like us on Facebook and Follow us on Twitter for regular updates about Share.

Thank you for supporting Share and we hope to see you again very soon!

Headed up by Horticulture Manager, Jenny Shand, working with Landscaper, Colin Parbery, Horticulture Trainer, Marie Morgan, and countless volunteers and students, including Raymond and Chris, everyone has been working tirelessly to have everything looking its absolute best - from getting plants ready for sale, mowing the lawns, planting up pots and hanging baskets, putting together flower arrangements to setting up the marquees. Thank you one and all.

Share awarded Lifetimes Best Practice Volunteering Award

Share celebrated Volunteers Week 2014 earlier this month with yet another party to say thank you to all our wonderful volunteers from all the staff and students at Share.

ILifetimes cheque for best volunteering practicet was therefore fitting to have Tina Champion, CEO of Lifetimes, and its Specialist Projects Manager, Kirsty Sheehy, at our little tea party to present Share with the Lifetimes Best Practice Volunteering Award of £500.

Tina said that the Lifetimes panel was impressed by the support, training, recognition and reward that Share Community gives to its volunteers and also that Share positively recruited those with additional support needs and marginalised backgrounds.

We had a lovely afternoon with cake and yet more foodie treats...but as you see we were a little slow getting a picture of the thank you cake - but you get the gist!

Student focus: Meet Suzanne

Suzanne has learning disabilities and autism, and studies art and crafts as part of the Life Skills course at Share.

Suzanne Awards 2014When Suzanne first arrived at Share, she was shy and very quiet. However, during her time at Share, as well as gaining qualifications, we have seen Suzanne gain in confidence, gradually coming out of her shell, and now blossoming into the positively bubbly personality you see today.

Suzanne at the SouthbankSuzanne has a strong interest in the performing arts, something Share has tried to nurture. Since coming to Share, Suzanne has undertaken a work experience placement at a local office, volunteered as an usher at the Tara Arts Centre and is now a regular volunteer at the Southbank Centre. Her supervisor during the Southbank Winter Festival commented, “Suzanne spreads joy and kindness everywhere she roams.”

Southbank Festival of LoveWith two Southbank festivals under her belt, Suzanne is currently training for this year's Southbank summer Festival of Love, which takes place from 28th June to 31st August. So if you see Suzanne at the Southbank during the summer, be sure to stop and say hello...

Suzanne lives independently in a shared house with friends and is extremely active in the community, taking part in local festivals and fundraising events. Having got a taste for travel following her recent trip to Bruges, Suzanne is currently saving for a trip to Paris next year.

In a recent letter to Share, Suzanne's mother, Margaret, made a small donation to Share in memory of a family member who passed away earlier this year, and noted 'The good reputation of Share Community is well known to me as my daughter attends as a student every Friday. Suzanne loves all the course work and has been helped to find voluntary work. This really enhances her life, helping her confidence and giving her the opportunity to work with and meet new people.'

To find out more about Share, and its training, traineeship and employment support programmes, visit the Share website, or email or telephone 020 7924 2949.
