Share Annual Awards 2014

With the Worshipful Mayor of Wandsworth Councillor Mr Stuart Thom Mayor with Annie and Billpresiding, we had a splendid day celebrating the successes and achievements of Share students at our Annual Awards Ceremony at the Civic Suite in Wandsworth on 4th November 2014.

And there was much to celebrate – as well as awards for accredited qualifications, special awards were presented for Outstanding Achievement Over the Year to Joyce, Hannah, Rachel, Teresa, Daniel, Karina and Raymond.

Peter Jablonski AwardThe Peter Jablonski Award for Outstanding Achievement and Perseverance in the Face of Adversity, which was established some years ago following the death of Peter Jablonski who was general manager at Share, was jointly awarded to Chris and Dionne, by Ana Jablonska and Ryan Jablonski,
Peter's children.

Streetdance
Meanwhile, some of our other students took to the stage with performances in streetdance, choreographed by Saffron, herself receiving support from Share's employment service, and music from Share's music group run by Share's music tutor, Frances Barrett.

Chair's awardA special Chairman's award was presented by Share's Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Bill Morgan, to Tony Hyam for his contribution over 21 years to Share Life (and telling the worst jokes!).

The ceremony was also our opportunity to thank all the wonderful volunteers who helped Share over the past year – from assisting in training classes, to helping our fundraising initiatives, to going out and about with our students on social events, and much more – so many people giving their time so generously, and something we are eternally grateful for.

Lasting legacy from a Share Friend

Mr John HeronShare was touched and humbled by the very generous donation we received last month from long-time Share Friend, Mr John Heron, who died in November 2013.

Mr Heron became involved with Share through his son, Peter, who was a horticulture student at Share during the 1990s. Sadly, Peter died, but his parents, John and Mariegold, remained in touch with Share for the rest of their lives.

Mr Heron was inspired to make this serious investment in Share's future after he took part in a fundraising pub quiz for Share in March 2013, when he saw for himself the impact of Share's work and the part it played in the local community.

Annie with Simon HeronSimon Heron, Mr Heron's nephew, visited Share a few weeks ago with his wife Wendy to present Mr Heron's legacy to Share's Chief Executive, Annie McDowall (pictured here with Simon Heron).

From everyone at Share, we say thank you to Mr Heron for his generosity and goodwill, and pledge to continue our work to help many others like his son, Peter. We shall remember Mr Heron as he was with his dancing shoes enjoying the Argentine Tango, which we know was a personal passion.

New face for Share Gardening

Elke PagitzShare is delighted to welcome Elke Pagitz, our new Senior Gardener and Business Lead, who joined us earlier this month.

Elke will be heading up Share Gardening, Share's horticulture social enterprise, which provides garden maintenance and planting services, and an opportunity for Share's horticulture graduates to work in a safe and supported environment.

Elke studied landscape architecture in Vienna and is an experienced gardener having worked in both Austria and Australia, and more recently at a local private gardening firm. She has a keen interest in organic gardening and farming, something she hopes to incorporate into Share Gardening's portfolio.

Share's Impact Report for 2013 to 2014

Share impact report 2013 to 2014Share has published its impact report for 2013 to 2014.

This year's report highlights a number of students who have found paid employment with Share's help, and some key projects and training programmes that are helping our students with their personal development and assisting them to take those all important steps towards independent living.

The report is once again presented as an infographic, and includes a 2015 year planner. To get your copy, email marcomms@sharecommunity.org.uk

Go Anywhere, Do Anything goes festive!

Help Share make double the difference

Thank you from everyone at ShareAs part of our fundraising activities, Share is taking part in this year's Localgiving Grow Your Tenner campaign. This means that throughout the campaign, Localgiving will match all one-time donations to Share pound-for-pound for up to £10, and monthly donations of up to £10 per month for 6 months.

With Gift Aid, a one-time donation of £10 made through Localgiving.com during the Grow Your Tenner campaign will generate up to £21.55, depending on the payment method used. Meanwhile, a direct debit monthly donation of £10 per month for six months with Localgiving, will turn a £60 donation into £120 for Share.

So please donate to Share now and start growing those tenners to help us continue our work!

Funds will be matched by Localgiving until 31st January 2015, or when the Localgiving pot runs out, whichever is first.
