I want to start with a huge and sincere thank you! As 2015 draws to a close our email inboxes are bombarded with retail offers and 'last minute deals' so I am especially grateful of the invitation to connect with you. I appreciate your being part of the TypographCommunity and it is a pleasure to converse, collaborate, share ideas and deliver this curated list of design, type and print related goodness to your inbox each month!

2016 lies ahead full of creative possibilities. The ABC features OSNS founder Veronica Grow in this new online Documentary which explores "writing" in relation to style and expression. The 10 minute short film draws fascinating parallels between traditional writing systems, and grafitti culture.
Martina Flor and Giuseppe Salerno challenged each other to a competition of sorts andcreated a site called Lettering vs Calligraphy, Each day they would create a letter—Flor, a letterer and Salerno, a calligrapher— “to explore the capabilities of the two technical approaches.”

In this recent interview with Emily Potts they discuss the finer points between the two practices, talk about the competition and their recent projects.

If someone in a red suit is tracking the naughty and nice - Benoît Bodhuin explorative typefaces should be on both lists! His Mischievous + Rebellious Typographic Experiments Break Every Design Rule but are friendly, fun, (and cute?!) in the process! “I’m not just interested in readability and reading speed,” says Bodhuin “I’m interested in playing and experimenting, in jostling with the rules, in linking typography with other graphic shapes. Once I’ve done that, I like to observe the consequences.”

"Common Sans is a project designed to make us rethink the words and labels we use to define each other. It is a simple reminder that words are not merely words but carry significant meaning and impact. Being a refugee is a temporary status, being human is permanent."
