September 2014 Newsletter

August was a busy and industrious month for us from Sue Nylander’s wonderful trunk show, to the fund raising felting event for the Fiero Marine Life Center, to the Clallam County Fair to preparing for our new exchange student from Norway.  As they say, no grass grows under our feet. September looks to be equally busy for us…   Beth  --

Abstract Fiber Trunk Show

Saturday September 13

As part of the Second Weekend Art Event in Port Angeles, Cabled Fiber studio will be having a special Trunk Show from Susan Stumbaugh of Abstract Fiber, Saturday September 13 from 10am-8pm. On display will be samples from her yarns and spinning fibers in brilliant colors of blends of Merino, BFL, Silk, Yak, Cashmere, Tencel and Alpaca. Lace weight, sock, sport and worsted yarns will all be available. A great time to see the amazing range of colors in her Silk Hankies too as she demonstrates the Mawata knitting technique. There will be drawings throughout the day and a grand prize drawing will be held during the official reception at 6:30. Come prepared to be inspired to be creative!

2nd Annual Skill Share Fair @ the Library

On Saturday, September 20, learn, create, and connect at the North Olympic Library System’s Second Annual Skill Share Fair — a free community expo at the Port Angeles Main Library for learning and teaching practical, handy skills that help foster a more resilient and sustainable community.
Cabled Fiber Studio will be demonstrating felted starfish at this  hands-on event.  Come join us at the library and learn more about our participation in fund raising for the Fiero Marine Life Center to support research on Sea Star Wasting disease.
More information at the Library's website.

Cascade Alpaca Yarns

Last spring Cascade Yarns announced a price increase for their alpaca and wool yarns from Peru.   At that time, Cabled Fiber Studio purchase a yarns ahead of the announced increase and have absorbed increases from the last few orders.  However, we now need to restock for the fall knitting season at the new price rate.

Starting October 1st the prices on all skeins of Pure Alpaca, Eco Duo Alpaca, Chunky Baby Alpaca, and Eco Cloud will be repriced to reflect these changes. We know that these are popular yarns and you have several weeks to purchase the current inventory at the current rate. Stop in soon to see the wonderful collection we have on hand.

Classes Continue

Classes have continued through the summer at a slower pace, but fall is just around the corner and that means it’s time to prepare for the Holidays!  Come in and learn a new techniques or skill.  LauraLee DeLuca has been offering needle and wet felting classes throughout the summer to great acclaim. Pamela is available to get you started with knitting and Beth will begin formal crochet classes this fall as well as beginning spinning and weaving.  Check the website for more details.
