Dear SCHSD member,

During this difficult time, we hope you and yours are doing well and staying healthy, mentally and physically. We have exciting news-- our 2020-2021 executive board has been appointed, and we have a lot of exciting plans and events in the works, this month and into the future. Stay tuned for more on our legislative and electoral initiatives and even more virtual events!

On several accounts, the 2020 election will be one of the most vital in recent history. Today, May third, marks six months until the election this fall, and the coronavirus pandemic has made it clearer than ever that we need new leadership in this country. We must work to defeat Donald Trump, flip the Senate, keep the House, and elect Democrats on the state and local levels. During this vital six month time period, we must also act, personally and politically, to keep our communities safe by continuing to social distance until restrictions are lifted and advocating for vote-by-mail measures, in our state's June primary and in the general election.

Keep reading to meet the members of our new executive board and learn how you can take action this month on the state and national levels. We can't wait to hit the ground running and work with all of you to help promote progressive ideals and get Democrats elected up and down the ballot this fall!

This Month's Virtual Events!
We strongly encourage everyone to participate in our weekly virtual events! Even though local chapters can't physically meet and hold events, it's still more important than ever to stay involved and work towards a blue wave this November. You can read more by going to our website, --> Take Action --> Events and Committees.

Our weekly events this month include:
  • Instagram lives @southcarolinahsdems every Saturday morning at 11 AM. Tune in to listen to our Executive Board members answer questions and talk about upcoming projects and events!
  • Phone-bank trainings and action hours every Tuesday at 6 PM (Remember that our individual and chapter phone-bank competition will run until May 12! Make calls at any time and track your calls at, and keep an eye on our weekly leaderboards on our Instagram and Facebook!)
  • Finally, don't forget that you can phone-bank at any time (within reasonable hours.) Access links to phone-bank for Kim Nelson and Jaime Harrison at, (or sign up for a shift with Jaime here,) and let us know if you know of any other SC Democratic candidates running at any level with phone or text banking opportunities!
You can RSVP for all of our virtual events on our Mobilize account here! As always, keep an eye on our social media and our emails throughout the month to stay updated on all the ways you can get involved virtually.

National HSDA Events and Opportunities
In addition to our state-wide events, there are several exciting updates and ways to get involved on the national level this month!
  • Weekly Friday phone-banks! Every Friday at 1:30 PM EST and 6 PM EST, join HSDA for national Zoom phone-banking for key candidates across the country! Sign up here:
  • TPT podcast! The Progressive Teen, HSDA's official media publication, is launching a podcast! Listen at, on Spotify at TPT Radio, or anywhere else you hear podcasts!
  • National Diversity Initiative and new HSDA caucuses! The HSDA Caucus system is intended to give underrepresented communities an amplified voice in HSDA. New caucuses launched recently include the Indigenous Peoples' Caucus, the First Generation Caucus, and the Red State Caucus. If you are a member of these or other marginalized communities and are interested in getting involved in HSDA on a national level, register for an HSDA Caucus here!
Take Action with us on Mobilize!
The SC High School Democrats is excited to introduce our brand new Mobilize America account!
