Dear Members

February has arrived and it is back to business as usual on the beach! We have been very busy at North Steyne over the holidays. The Board has embarked on a project to renovate the Club Building and we need your help! We have created a short survey so we can hear your thoughts about how we can improve the building for the benefit of you and your family members.

Please click here to learn more about the project and to complete the survey.

North Steyne hosted a Surf Boat Carnival during the Australia Day long weekend. What a great spectacle it was with competitors from all across the state. Well done to our North Steyne teams, the Buccaneers and Tigerlillies, for their great effort, and thank you to all volunteers who made sure that everything ran smoothly. It was a fantastic North Steyne team effort!

It is also now time to say farewell to our 2 friends from Gaza, Mo and Hasan, who spent the month with us learning all about Nippers, understanding surf lifesaving, and undertaking intensive training. We are proud to say they obtained their Bronze and SRC! Mo and Hasan will return to Gaza to set-up a surf lifesaving club and we look forward to supporting our new sister organization, the Gaza Beach Surf Life Saving Club. It is great that we can make a difference to the lives of so many, and not only keep people safe on our beach but ensure they are safe around the world.

See you at the beach!

Our Annual Long Weekend Visit from Warrnambool SLSC

Board Training session with Warrnambool, where our visitors buddied up with a North Steyne Nipper each!
North Steyne hosted competitors from Warrnambool SLSC over the Australia Day long weekend who took time out from competing at Manly and Freshwater to do some board coaching with our nipper competitors who were thrilled to have some one on one time with the Warrnambool athletes.
We are very grateful also for the new nipper board presented to us by John McNeil and his team from Warrnambool SLSC -pictured right with some U10 nippers!

In other nipper news, North Steyne was well represented at Manly Nipper Nats on December 19 with twenty kids competing. We have a team of 27 Nippers competing this Sunday at the Nipper Branch Championships at Queenscliff.  Good luck and go the Black & Gold!!

Our visitors from Gaza, Palestine have been busy over January; Mohammed obtained his Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) and Hasan obtained his Bronze Medallion and both have since been helping with running nippers and water safety. Our work has been covered in the media around the world, featuring on SBS news, SBS Radio and in the UK edition of The Guardian newspaper.

Planning and training is well underway for our Nipper State Team!!  We have a team of 23 Nippers planning to travel north to the NSW Nipper State Championships at the end of February in Swansea Belmont.

See you on the beach!
