December Newsletter

Dear Members

The season is now in full swing and we certainly have a lot of things happening at North Steyne. From the patrols to the training sessions, it is great to see everyone actively involved on our beach. Congratulations to our 11 new SRC-ers who passed their assessment with flying colours last Sunday. Well done to Jodie Frazer for her great work with this group.

For those of you who joined us at our Back to the Beach party, I am sure you will agree that it was an excellent night. With great food, drink and music (what a band!), it could not have been better - see the fun photos below. Thanks to Claire Oxlade for her expert organization of the night.

I hope you will all join us for our Christmas Party on Sunday, 15 December. The day will kick off with the traditional Nippers festivities, and then in the afternoon  everyone is invited to join in for some food and holiday cheer. More details to follow and we hope to see you there.

It’s been a huge month of preparation for our club to host the Junior Beach & Water Carnival on Sunday 1 December.  Thank you to our Competition team, especially Sarah Lally, for all their hard work in the lead-up.  Good luck to all our competitors, may the day be full of fun and good sportsmanship!

The last day of Nippers and the annual Christmas Party is on Sunday 15 December.  Nippers will return on Sunday 4 January 2020!

Get along and support Manly Lions support our great Club

Education

Congratulations to our newest SRCs who recently completed their assessment, with at least one candidate jumping straight into the current Bronze training group.

Once through the assessment, the group couldn’t wait to get their red & yellow gear on and hit the beach!

So, after a celebratory feast in the club room they joined their trainer, Jodie Frazer on Patrol 6 to put their new skills to use. The patrol included some very experienced patrolling members including Jo Cooper, Tracey Hare-Boyd, Jack Watt and Shannon Job, who were only too happy to show them the “ropes”.
Congratulations too, to our successful candidates in the recent IRB Crew Course and to the Riverview Boys who completed their bronze.

North Steyne Boaties are entering a team to compete in the world’s longest toughest surfboat race. 188 kilometers of the most spectacular piece of the Australian coastline (see map below).

The George Bass Surfboat & Ski Marathon commenced in 1975, with skis added to the event in the 1990s.

It is a truly unique experience for competitors, support crews and organizers. An event where personal challenges are met and lifelong friendships are formed as part of the GBM family.

We wish the boys all the best for their training leading up to the event and much success in the race!
