Dear Members
February was another big month at the Club full of volunteering and helping others. We started the month helping at the Sun Run. From course marshals to handing out medals, North Steyne had over 90 people volunteering at this community event which raised over $3k for the Club. Thank you to all those who volunteered and helped us raise these much-needed funds.
We were also called on to provide flood evacuation assistance during the wild weather a few weeks ago. On 9 February, a group of North Steyne members assisted the NSW Police evacuating people in flood-affected areas on the Northern Beaches. I would like to recognise Tracey Hare-Boyd, Michael Bernerius, Jack Watt, Trae Hare-Boyd and Dannii Edwards for their outstanding work and going beyond the beach to help the community wherever it is needed.
You will recall that last month I asked you all for your input into the Master Plan for our Pavillion Upgrade. Thank you to those of you who completed the survey. Results are in, see link below.
We also had some major wins in February with success at the NSW Surf Life Saving State Championships. Congratulations to Joe Jenkins for bringing home Gold in U19 Champion Lifesaver and Trae Hare-Boyd for achieving Bronze in this event. Congratulations as well to Jack Watt for winning Bronze in Men’s Open category of Champion Lifesaver and Kyra Jenkins for getting 4th place. What a great result for the North Steyne team and well done to all who competed.

Later this month, on Friday 27th March the Club will be hosting a very special event, a 'Q&A evening' involving some of our life members. This event will be a night of storytelling, memories and historical facts that we are excited to pass on to our future generations. This month also sees our annual Ocean Swim on the 22nd! Great morning for all the family to get involved.
Finally, good luck to our Nippers team who will be competing at the Junior State Championship this week-end. We are proud of every single one of you and no doubt, you will do the Black n’ Gold proud. Go North Steyne!!
See you at the beach!

From your Patrol Captain...
|
|
Just a general update on what is happening with Patrols. We are overall doing well with our patrols and subs, there are always hiccups along the way, but generally, we are doing OK. However, as we draw towards the end of the season, it is important that we continue to make it to your patrols or organise a sub.
|
|
|
It is no different to any other team atmosphere you don't want to let your mates down by not showing up so please make sure you get there. Make sure you communicate to your Patrol Captains and utilise the Subs Facebook page to cover any gaps. Also note that team attendance and other elements for running of patrols including first aid kit stocks, patrol inspections outcomes, etc all go into consideration for the Patrol of the Year!
IRB Drivers & Crew
Please let me know if you have any interest in doing your drivers and crew courses, it is one of the most fun and important roles on the beach!. Additionally, North Steyne is looking to start competing in IRB racing which will be a blast! If you want to get involved go for your drivers and crew medallions!

Jack Sutherland Sunday Change over Lunch:
Thank you to Jack for sharing this photo (above) from back in his day! What a spread and check out the fashion!
Just a reminder that the Sunday Change over lunch (Jack's Lunch!) is on! Last week it was sushi! and it was a hit so it will likely be Sushi again based on that. Lunch is available to patrolling members on Sunday AM & PM Patrol in the Club Bar starting from around 1.00pm ish!
See you there

Nippers Season reaching the Finish Line!
|

We are on our way to Swansea Belmont SLSC for the NSW Nipper State Championships with a team of 23 Nippers across a number of age groups and events. Thank you to Ron Morton, Club Life Member, who presented the uniforms to our team at nippers muster. Good luck and go the Black & Gold!
North Steyne cleaned up at Nipper Branch Championships at Queenscliff with medals in the beach sprint, mixed beach relay, flags, 1km run, and boards. Well done to our competitors, officials, age managers and parents who helped us field such a great team.
Our schedule was interrupted by the drought-breaking storm over the weekend of 8-9th February which prevented nippers and training from going ahead. High tides and storm surges saw waves breaking on the clubhouse steps on a Sunday morning. Safety is our first consideration so unfortunately, nippers had to be canceled again the following week due to water pollution from storm runoff and storm debris still on the beach.
Our final nippers session will be on the 8 th March and our presentation day will be on Saturday 14 th March at Balgowlah RSL starting at 10am. Good news, Nippers does not stop for the off-season. Our weekend board training sessions with Coach Bec will continue from April. The water temperature usually stays around 20 degrees long into winter and surf conditions are usually calmer than Spring and Summer so grab a wetsuit and join in. Check Team App for details.
See you at the beach!
