Afrika Loud is highlighting some of the most recent big news in entertainment as we wrap up 2020. Sony Music Africa just tapped big talent from East Africa by signing Ommy Dimpoz and appointing Seven Mosha to a new role. Kenya’s official selection to the Oscars also hit Kenyan cinemas this December. We’ve got two new albums from acclaimed music producers, shaking up the scene in Uganda and South Africa: Zulitums and Sun-EL. Seven & Ommy Dimpoz for Sony Music Africa

Tanzania’s Christine ‘Seven’ Mosha and Ommy Dimpoz have joined the Sony Music Africa family! With over 15 years in the African entertainment industry, Seven just got appointed by Sony Music Entertainment Africa to lead Marketing and Artist Development for the East Africa region. In this role, Mosha will be responsible for building out the company’s roster of local talent and amplifying its international repertoire and existing catalogue across the region. At the same time, one of Tanzania’s biggest music stars Ommy Dimpoz has just joined Sony Africa family. Upon his signing, Ommy released a new single and video of "Dede" featuring DJ Tira, Dladla Mshunqisi and Prince Bulo. Stream it here

'The Letter' film premiere in Kenya

Kenya’s official selection to the 93rd Oscar Awards ‘The Letter’ premiered in Kenya this December, hosting successful launch events in Nairobi and Mombasa. Prior to this, the film played at prestigious international film festivals including DOC NYC, AFI Docs Film Festival, IDFA, Durban International Film Festival and Docs Barcelona where it won a Special Jury Mention. Directed and produced by Maia Lekow & Christopher King, the Kenyan documentary explores the universal theme of how land is divided when an elder dies and is entangled by the chaotic mixture of traditions vs modern values and religion. To The World and Beyond! Sun-EL stuns in 31-track album

South African multi award-winning producer, Sun-EL Musician released a staggering two-disc album featuring 26 collaborators this December! Collaborators include Niniola (Nigeria), Sauti Sol (Kenya) and from South Africa—Kwesta, Black Motion, Ami Faku, Bongeziwe Mabandla, Simmy and Msaki, This album is Sun-EL's most significant work to date and pegged as the most anticipated South African album this year, so far garnering over 7.5 million streams before its release. The album in both sound and concept fuses the traditional with the futuristic, with amazing cosmic visuals. Stream it here

 Zulitums ‘Invictus’ debut album is out!

Uganda’s Zulitums is one of East Africa’s fastest rising music producers. Renowned for his stellar songwriting and production skills, he is now taking it a notch higher with the release of his debut album 'Invictus' (Latin word for unconquered). Released under his label Blacq Avay Records And Entertainment, the 12-track album is an expression of love, hope, happiness and triumph. The album is a blend of Reggae, Afrobeats, R&B and Pop sounds. In the album, Zulitums isn’t only making his debut as a singer and a performing artist but as expected; he’s producing the music in collaboration with VadBeats, Josh Pro and TUC.

Reekado Banks in 'Off The Record' - new EP!

One of West Africa’s most adored talents, Reekado Banks, recently released his hotly anticipated EP 'Off The Record', following his 2016 LP ‘Spotlight’. The 7-track release is a deep exploration into Reekado’s Nigerian identity, with a global audience in mind. The project opens with East African lead single "Mama" — a highlife-influenced collaboration with Tanzanian artist Harmonize. Other tracks include "Need More”, featuring Afrobeats rising stars Kida Kudz and EO, “Rora”, “Speak To Me” with Tiwa Savage, “People Dey'' with Mr. Eazi, “Happy Yourself” and “You Dey Mad'' featuring AttiFaya.
