Hello SGCC Members,

Thanks to all of our members, guests and speakers for making the 2013 SGCC Members Meeting a success. Participants offered great ideas and feedback on the work being done to formulate the Smart Grid Consumer Value Proposition, the Smart Energy Corps literacy initiative and SGCC strategic planning into 2014. Participants also heard from U.S. Department of Energy's Assistant Secretary of Energy Pat Hoffman about the importance of consumers in the new smart grid landscape, and we heard fascinating details from Pepco about their consumer engagement programs.

We look forward to working with all of you to continue to advance a consumer-safe and consumer-friendly smart grid. Don't forget to mark your calendars for SGCC’s 2014 Igniting Consumer Engagement Consumer Symposium, Jan. 27, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas where you'll hear even more about how SGCC initiatives are taking shape!

2014 Consumer Symposium in San Antonio

We are looking for a few volunteers to assist us with planning the 2014 SGCC Consumer Symposium. We had an excellent event last year with the theme of Consumers in Focus. What's hot now? What can we focus on that will help you? Please help us tackle the issues of importance to you and join our committee for its kick-off meeting. Help us make this event a success! If you have interest in helping develop our Consumer Symposium event, please contact DeMika Thomas-Hill at

SGCC Committee Updates

Research: The Research Committee is finalizing the Smart Grid Economic & Environmental Benefits report, which will be released on October 8. Analysis on the results from Consumer Pulse Wave IV fieldwork is proceeding apace, and will be a major topic of discussion at the next Research Committee meeting. Finally, the Committee is looking at how best to proceed on the follow-up to Spotlight on Low Income Consumers in light of the proposals we have received to date.

Education and Outreach: The Education and Outreach Committee is currently working on adding additional elements to SGCC's consumer-facing website,, including an interactive timeline presenting smart grid as the next great innovation. In addition, the Committee has selected a firm to help produce a series of six one-minute videos that will transform SGCC's series of smart grid fact sheets into easily consumable and appealing videos to support and deepen the education for each topic.

Membership: SGCC welcomes four new members to join in the month of September: Paygo, Idaho Falls, Opower and NC Sustainable Energy Association.

If you think you might be interested or would like more details on any of the committees, please feel free to submit online your interest and we'll get you more details.
