The Pennsylvania Medical Society publicly (PAMED) announced the appointment of Martin Raniowski as executive vice president Jan. 1, 2017. Get to know PAMED’s New Executive Vice President.
Save The Date: Practice Management Seminar
Plans for the 12th Annual Practice Management Conference are underway. Mark your schedules now – May 10 at Springfield Country Club – and attend the daylong conference that will address practice management challenges. There will be a physician and practice manager evening program, too. Keynote and breakout sessions will focus on bridging the gaps between medical care & behavioral healthcare. Montgomery County Medical Society (MCMS) Board Members and Practice Managers Kathie Allen and Cheri Matthews have agreed to serve on the planning committee, along with MCMS Executive Director Toyca Williams. Suggestions for workshop topics are welcomed. More details to come.
2017 Medical Record Copying Fees Available to Members in Convenient Chart
Every year, PAMED receives many calls and emails from members asking for the list of medical record copying fees for the new year. We know that this is an important planning tool for practices.The Pennsylvania Department of Health released copying fees for 2017. To assist members, PAMED offers a convenient chart with 2017 copying fees.

Members Encouraged to Get in the Game
There are a number of ways you can be involved in organized medicine and advocating at the county level is a good start. Members are welcomed to attend the next MCMS Board meeting, Tuesday, March 7, 6 p.m. Please confirm attendance with MCMS staff, .

PA Health Alert 366 - Increased Influenza Activity and Severe Illness Reported
Influenza transmission is increasing across the country and in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Department of Health (PADOH) has determined that influenza activity  has been widespread for the last two weeks. PADOH has received reports of severe influenza illness and deaths due to influenza, particularly in the elderly, which is not unexpected during influenza season. Kudos to PAMED Advocacy
The Issue: Retroactive denials by insurers represent a significant pain point for practices.
The SolutionA new PA law, supported by the is an improvement over current retroactive review practices. It will require that an insurer cannot retroactively deny reimbursement as a result of overpayment determination more than 24 months after the initial payment.

Child Abuse CME, Not an Option  
If you haven’t done your Child Abuse Certification, PAMED is offering this course free to all Pennsylvania physicians through the end of January 2017. If you completed this course for the 2015-2016 license cycle, please do not complete it again for the 2017-2018 license cycle until after Feb. 2, 2017. 
EHR Incentive Program Attestation Opened on Jan. 3 and Ends Jan. 28 – Are You Prepared?
The EHR Incentive Program's attestation system for the 2016 program year will be open from Jan. 3, 2017, through Feb. 28, 2017. Read the key points that eligible professionals (EPs) should keep in mind as they prepare to attest for the Medicare EHR Incentive Program.
