CME Reimbursement Through Pyfer Fund
Thanks to the generosity of Howard F. Pyfer, M.D., the Montgomery County Medical Society (MCMS) offers reimbursement for Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits. 

Per the terms of Dr. Pyfer’s will, MCMS members under the age of 45 are eligible for an annual maximum reimbursement of $500. Read more for details on the conditions of eligibility.

State Senate Holding Regional Telephone Town Halls on Opioid Abuse
There were 3,383 drug-related overdose deaths reported in Pennsylvania in 2015, an increase of 23 percent over 2014, according to a recent Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) report. It's clear that the Commonwealth is in the midst of an opioid abuse crisis, and Pennsylvania legislators are among those taking action to address the epidemic. Sen. Gene Yaw and the Senate Republican Caucus are holding a series of Telephone Town Hall events over the coming months to offer Pennsylvania residents the opportunity to connect with and learn from local experts on the heroin and opioid crisis. The Southeast region tele-town hall is scheduled for Jan. 10, 6:30 p.m. Read more for call-in details. 
Your MACRA Checklist: Are You Ready for Implementation on Jan. 1?
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) MACRA final rule will be implemented beginning Jan. 1. The rule calls for the creation of a Quality Payment Program consisting of two tracks: Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and Advanced Alternative Payment Models (Advanced APMs). During the first year of MACRA, implementation in 2017, most physicians are expected to participate in MIPS. Changes to PA PDMP Querying Requirements Four pieces of opioids legislation were signed into law by Gov. Wolf on Nov. 2. The laws updated Pennsylvania's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) law and also set certain prescribing practices for opioids and benzodiazepines.

Since the laws were signed, PAMED members have been asking exactly how the querying requirements have changed. Read the basic overview of Pennsylvania's PDMP querying requirements for prescribers. The newest requirement, which is effective Jan. 1, 2017 is noted in red.
