A Message from Gretchen
Hi Friends!

Here's my love note to you:

Finally, finally, we’re feeling the black cloud of Covid beginning to lift. We’ll be offering our first in-person workshops again, starting with the July four-day workshop in New Braunfels.

My closest friends and family have all received their vaccinations, and I hope you and yours have also.

Love,
Gretchen

Revising for Specificity

Here’s a revision activity Gretchen created for her students. You might want to use it with your students. Better yet, you could create your own version with sentences from your students’ writing!

This Sentence Has 5 Words

Thanks to Cecilia Hanna, English Department Head at Taft High School, for showing us this great video!

She retitled this "Write Music" for her English I students and color-coded the sentence lengths, calling the one-two word sentences "word bombs."

After they read the transcript together as a class and then watched the video, one student uttered, "Wow. Powerful."

2nd Grade 11-Minute Essays

Check out what these second graders did with the 11-minute essay. Amazing!

Kudos to Traci Odom, teacher in Eden CISD, and thanks to principal Deanna Beauchamp for sharing.
