Sanctuary Workshop

Dr. Peter Kivisto will speak about conditions migrants face in their own countries which cause them to leave and trek hundreds of miles to our borders for help as well as the complicity of our own government in creating these very conditions.

Jody Mashek, Director of the Legal Services for AFSC will share her personal experiences on the border working with the migrants.

A chance to reflect on the last year, hear about our current efforts in the Quad Cities and in our expansion clusters in Johnson, Clinton, and Jackson counties, and share and hear ideas for our campaigns moving into the coming two years. More details to follow.
MLK Day Celebration,
Monday, January 21.

Sponsored by P.U.N.C.H. (People Uniting Neighbors and Churches) and FoMLK (Friends of Martin Luther King)
This year's theme: “FROM WHENCE WE CAME, a celebration of civil rights history,” The day will include a variety of activities.

8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. a community service project sponsored by KWQC TV6 for a drive through at the TV6 station (805 Brady St.) where personal and household cleaning products may be donated to help supply Blessing Boxes in the community.
The program for the day will be hosted at Sacred Heart Cathedral (422 E10th St.) and will include the viewing of a major civil rights history (local, state & national) exhibit displayed from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  An assembly / program will begin at 11:00 a.m. with keynote presentation by Jim Collins, retired executive, Deere & Company, 1st Executive Director of Project NOW (‘68) and former commissioner of the Iowa Civil Rights Commission (‘89 – ‘92).

A fellowship luncheon will be served in the Cathedral Hall following the program.   For further details dial 563-570-5927.
