Take us on a "Campus Visit": Submit a Short Video About Life in Your Writing Program

Our online Guide to Writing Programs provides great data on what programs have to offer, but we also want to help share students' perspectives about what is unique about their programs. This fall, AWP will start a new online series called "Campus Visit," featuring short videos about life in our student members' creative writing programs. Videos should be no longer than three minutes and should strive to provide the kind of info or advice that you wish you'd known before enrolling. What surprised you? What was not an expectation but you have since found invaluable? Submit videos in any format to awp@awpwriter.org and be sure to include your name and the name of your program. Entries are welcome now through October 15, 2014.

Register for #AWP14 Minneapolis

Registration for #AWP15 is now open! Take advantage of our lowest rates by registering during our early bird-period, which runs until October 30. Preregistration will be open through January 22. After that date, you may register online using our new will-call option, though not at a reduced pregistration rate. The conference hotel block at Hilton Minneapoilis will open August 15; visit our hotel and travel page for updates.

Apply for AWP's Mentorship Program

This fall, AWP will be launching our first-ever mentorship program, Writer to Writer. Applications are open now. AWP mentors will agree to serve for three months and be paired with a writer just starting out. We will provide the structure, with a series of six modules that the mentors and mentees can work through at their own pace. While the program is free and application open to all members, we particularly encourage two underserved segments of our membership to apply—those writers who have never been associated with an MFA program and those writing from regions, backgrounds, and cultures that are generally underrepresented in the literary world. Prospective mentors should be members in good standing and have at least one published book. We are looking for mentors who will, above all, be supportive, responsive, informative, and receptive to learning from the experience themselves. There are a limited number of positions available for this pilot program, and applicants who are not paired with a mentor this fall can elect to have their applications considered again in the spring. Applications are open now through August 15, 2015.

Notice to Our Members

It has recently come to our attention that a third-party list seller has been advertising that they are selling the email addresses of our conference attendees. We want you to know that this is a scam; AWP does not and will never sell your email address. We have recently entered into a partnership with Americans for the Arts, and you will receive a notice from us later this summer asking if you would like to receive advocacy notices from them. They are the only association with whom we would ever share your email address; even then, we would not do so without your permission--you would need to "opt in" to get onto that email distribution list.
