Win $500 to Attend a Writer's Conference, Festival, Center, Retreat, or Residency

Each year, AWP offers three scholarships of $500 each to emerging writers who wish to attend a writers' conference, center, retreat, festival, or residency. AWP maintains a comprehensive list of these events and opportunities in the Directory of Conferences & Centers. Winners and six finalists will also receive a one-year individual membership in AWP. This year's judges are Xu Xi for creative nonfiction, Matt Bell for fiction, and Sandra Beasley for poetry. Enter via Submittable now until March 30, 2015.

Get to Know the 2015 AWP Small Press Publisher Award Nominees

The annual AWP Small Press Publisher Award for nonprofit presses and literary journals recognizes the important role these organizations play in publishing creative works and introducing new authors to the reading public. The winner will be announced at the #AWP15 Conference & Bookfair in Minneapolis. We are happy to announce the folloiwng presses as the finalists for 2015: Bellevue Literary Press (BLP), Coffee House Press, Etruscan Press, Graywolf Press, and Salmon Poetry.

Prepare to Attend #AWP15 in Minneapolis

Preparation is key to making the most out of your conference experience. To begin, the schedule of more than 550 events is available on our website. Create, save, and share with your friends your personalized conference itinerary. Find your favorite press, journal, or literary organizaiton at the bookfair. Search for the date, time, and location of your favorite author signings. Check out or add to the list of the many offsite events that will take place during the conference. Review the #AWP15 attendee guide, or the walk-to dining information. Keep up with conference updates through the #AWP15 Facebook event, and #AWP15 when making your own social media announcemnts about the conference and bookfair.

To receive emails specific to #AWP15, including updates about the schedule and conference tips, make sure you use the confirmation email that was sent to you to link your registration badge to your AWP account. If you purchased your own registration, your badge should be linked automatically. Sign into your account and check your badge on your Conference Registration Management page in your AWP user account.

Articles in each issue of the Writer's Chronicle are available online in our features archive. The February issue, recently posted, contains interviews; essays on craft; and a round-table discussion about reading, writing, and teaching.

Propose an Event for #AWP16 in Los Angeles

In mid-March, AWP will welcome proposals for the 2016 conference in Los Angeles. Our conference committee seeks proposals that feature panelists who are diverse in their backgrounds, pursuits, affiliations, and ages, and who represent a broad range of perspectives and experiences. AWP strongly encourages participation from current and recent graduate students. The deadline for proposal submission is Friday, May 1, 2015.
