Let Us Know Your Questions for Our First-Ever Screencast
AWP's new monthly web series kicks off with your chance to ask questions of writer and Ball State University professor Cathy Day about the process of asking for recommendation letters for academic teaching positions. We have switched the format from a webinar to a screencast to better accommodate our members' schedules. Email your questions to careerservices@awpwriter.org by Sunday, September 28, 2014 to have them addressed.
Take Us on a Campus Visit: Submit a Short Video About Life in Your Writing Program
This fall, AWP begins a new online series called Campus Visit, featuring short videos about life in our student members' creative writing programs. Videos should be no longer than three minutes and should strive to provide the kind of info or advice you wish you had known before enrolling. What surprised you? What was not an expectation but you have since found invaluable? Submit videos in any format to awp@awpwriter.org and be sure to include your name and the name of your program.
Explore Our New Guide to Creative Writing Programs
Our Guide to Writing Programs is all new, with improved search and more information than ever—including faculty names—presented at first glance. Program Directors, now is the time to refresh your school's information; refer to your Program Directors' Welcome Packet for instructions.
Read MFA Advice from Pam Houston
Pam Houston's article, "Twelve Questions You Should Ask Before You Enroll in an MFA Program," received a good deal of attention on social media last week for its honest advice about writing programs. This fall, the Writer's Notebook will continue to feature uncommon advice for MFA applicants, with articles forthcoming by Elizabeth McCracken, Laura Kasischke, and Jane Friedman.
