AWP depends on your support to enhance member services and expand outreach to the literary community. Please consider making a gift to AWP during this year's fall campaign and especially on #GivingTuesday. Visit our website to make your online gift today.

Win $500 to Attend a Writers' Conference

Each year, AWP offers three scholarships of $500 each to emerging writers who wish to attend a writers' conference, center, retreat, festival, or residency. AWP maintains a comprehensive list of these events and opportunities in our Directory of Conferences & Centers. Winners and six finalists will also receive a one-year individual membership in AWP. This year's judges are Xu Xi for creative nonfiction, Matt Bell for fiction, and Sandra Beasley for poetry. Enter via Submittable now until Monday, March 30, 2015.

Our Annual Report on the Academic Job Market is in. This report explores the recent trends and overall health of the academic job market in relation to creative writing professionals, covering the good news and the bad, and it shines a light on possible solutions to the career problems writers and recent grads face today.

Survey of Creative Writing Programs

This month, AWP is proud to be launching our most comprehensive survey of creative writing programs ever. Feedback from all US writing programs will shed light on the administration and best practices of graduate and undergraduate programs, residency and low residency, state and private. The data will help program directors better advocate for their programs, faculty, and students. If you are a program director, please watch your email for the invitation to participate.

Take Us on a Campus Visit

Come view the video submissions we've received from students at MFA and BFA programs across the country. Students, we want to know what makes your program special. What would someone not understand about your writing program just by looking at the data in our online Guide? Students, send us your (informal and entertaining) three-minute videos and we'll help promote your program on our website and in our social media.

Read Uncommon Writing Program Advice

Last month's program advice article, "If You Seek a Full-Time Writing and Publishing Career" by Jane Friedman provided suggestions for making the most of a creative writing BFA. This fall's advice series featured articles by Pam Houston, Elizabeth McCracken, Jane Friedman, and Laura Kasischke, and concludes this month with a piece by D.A. Powell.
