In this issue: The fireworks, concerts, processions and other activities that take place during the 11-day Patron Saint's Festivities in La Penita have finally ended... and we have peace and quiet once again.

The heat and humidity have arrived early and it appears that the summer rains may do the same as the second named storm of the season, Tropical Storm Blanca, is already forming out to our west. You can view the current weather conditions on the Official Jaltemba Bay Weather page.

To find out what else is happening, read through the information below and take a peek at our event calendar

Watch for the next issue of the Jaltemba Bay Life Newsletter to arrive in your Inbox on Wednesday, July 1 just in time for your morning coffee. In the meantime, keep an eye on our blog and forum, as we post information, stories and photos there on a regular basis.

June in Jaltemba Bay

by Christina Stobbs

June marks the beginning of the dizzyingly hot weather with temperatures often rising above 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32°C) in the shade. However, the heat of June is not that uncomfortable, as the humidity is nowhere near the levels experienced in August and September. The days are for the most part hot and dry...  Read More

KinderAide 2015 Wrap-Up

by Jane Fellows (Miller)

What a season for KinderAide! My intentions were to build two shade structures at Jardin de Niños: Luis Pasteur and La Patria as promised, and to continue distributing donated school supplies. I thought perhaps that KinderAide had come to a natural closing state and that I would remain open to whatever the future held. However in November...  Read More

Journey to the Perfect
Egg Sandwich

by Wendy DeBoer

Every egg sandwich should have a story… at least if it is worth eating. Here in Mexico, the story starts with Carlos. Every day Carlos strolls the streets of La Peñita and Guayabitos with his cart of pan (bread). I can count on him like clockwork. When I hear his voice calling for buyers of his fresh bolillos, I know it is 9am. Carlos has several types of bread he peddles...  Read More

In Bloom: Clavellina
(Shaving Brush Tree)

by Allyson Williams

While driving through the residential zone in Rincón de Guayabitos earlier this week, I was surprised to see a Shaving Brush Tree tree prominently displaying these large cotton-like puffs. The bright pink flowers had already bloomed and fallen off, and the puffs seemed to have taken their place.  Read More

From the Past
Hala Hazzi, from Hamaca Maya in La Peñita, recently shared a link to an article we published back in 2012 on her Facebook page. It describes the intriguing story of one particular house that had been rented by several well-known locals. It got such a great response that we've decided to repost the intro and the first in a 6-part series. We will share the others in upcoming issues of our newsletter, so stay tuned...

Enchanting Little House in
La Peñita: The Intro

It turns out that the house at Calle Mazatlan #60 in La Peñita has quite an intriguing past. This charming little two-bedroom house has been rented by a number of interesting and influential local folks, many of whom have become longtime residents of the Jaltemba Bay area after staying there.  Read More

Part 1: The House on Fishermen Street

by Roberto Gil de Montes

I first heard of La Peñita de Jaltemba in 1980 while living in Mexico City through an artist friend and her husband, who was also a painter. Whenever we would get together, the conversation would somehow end up with stories of their friend Efrain who lived in this beach town on the Pacific coast.  Read More
