"Timing Is Everything"
Thanks to Blake Anderson for this timely photo.
Welcome to all 3768 newsletter subscribers!  I hope that some of you enjoy watching the numbers grow, as much as I enjoy sharing them with you.

It is now 4 days after Semana Santa and Easter Sunday, and 4 days into Semana Pacua, and the bay is still bustling with vacationers. Last week, Semana Santa, proved to be as exciting as ever. Many thousands of people arrived by cars and buses. Highway 200 couldn't have gotten any busier as everyone was in their typical hurry to get to their respective vacation locations. Let's just say that there was some very creative and scary driving going on. It was not very pleasant for the faint at heart.

I have not heard yet what the toll was, or if there was any causalities. In the followup story below, you will find many photos of the crowded beaches. We here at Explore Nayarit love to see all the folks here and enjoying themselves on their beaches. Our weather was perfect, day and night.

Just a quick followup as promised to the good folks that donated to my future distributions of food to the dwellers of La Colonia...

I wish to thank the following people for their contributions, by first names only, also a thank you to those that donated but decided to withdraw their donations for what ever reasons.
JoAnn and Bob
Bev & Tim
Roma and George
Grant & Jean

There was a total of $2,350 pesos donated, that was not retrieved from the Hamaca Hala store. I have taken the opportunity to donate it to the Cancer de Mama Association. Any future food distributions by me will be done on a non-scheduled basis.

We hope that you will not be discouraged and will again share with us your experiences here in the bay and beyond. I am sharing one of my recent endeavors later on in this newsletter. I hope you will enjoy reading my short report..

Semana Santa Photos, For Those That Haven't Seen Enough Already

The linked blog post is available for all to check out the photos that were either submitted or duplicated from Facebook or other media.

The traffic was unbelievable, as suspected, and continued for days on end. Unfortunately, we heard many sirens, indicating accidents. We hope the causalities were minimal. The height of stupidity was when the drivers of cars and or trucks would decide to create third lanes by crossing into the oncoming traffic.

And thanks to all that have taken their time to share their photos. Check them out  here.

150 Whales Stranded on a Beach
This is a photo of about 150 stranded whales on a beach in Perth, Australia. Rescuers were able to save approximately half of them. There has been no reason given for this anomaly,

There was s similar incident in 1996 wherein some 320 whales beached themselves in the same area. So far, there are no known reasons for these occurrences.
Short Takes...

Construction has begun on the new $10 billion peso desalination plant in Playas de Rosarito in Baja California. The first phase is scheduled for completion by the end of 2019 and is expected to initially produce 2.2 cubic meters of water every second. The amount of desalinated water produced will double by the time the facility is fully functional. This is being done to displace the need for water from the Colorado River.

The Popocatépetl Volcano is not only the most active volcano in Mexico, but during 2017 it had the largest number of volcano tectonic earthquakes ever recorded there. Actually, recorded history for the previous 23 years indicated that 2017 had a 558% increase in movements. Reporting this just for informational reasons, or as Paul Harvey used to say...Just what, not why!

Reader's Reviews

Did you enjoy a great meal, find a great deal or get great service? Why not take a few minutes to write a recommendation for your favorite places to help other locals and visitors in their trip planning and research. Here's what people are saying..

Hamaca Maya
This is your one stop shop for the largest and most beautiful selection of hammocks in all of Mexico. Don't bother wasting time elsewhere. If you're looking for a hammock-THIS is the place. If you're looking for a lame Tshirt or trinket that can be found anywhere else in Mexico, then move on. If you want unique and fun take home prezzies for friends, family and yourself... then don't miss this amazing little gem in La Penita. And the bonus is the owner is as colourful and vibrant as the cool stuff she carries. We love it and never miss an opportunity to check it out when we're there. Absolutely FIVE star worthy.

Buhardilla Restaurant - Guayabitos
My wife and I ate here Saturday night Feb 10, and it was great. Our table wasn't the best but I was late making the reservation and it was the only table for 2 left so you take what you can get. My wife had the raviolis and they were excellent although a very small serving. If it would have been me who ordered them I would have been left hungry and upset. For her, it was barely enough and she ate several pieces of the delicious bread they served with the meal to fill up. I had the fettuchini carbonarra and it was delicious and almost more than I could eat. The sauce was excellent and the pasta was cooked to perfection. Service was prompt and courteous from a waitress who spoke perfect English, and prices were certainly not out of line. All in all a very enjoyable evening!   Murray Dryburgh

Centro Medico La Peñita (Dr. Martín Nuñez Arciniega) - La Penita
Would highly recommend this medical office. My wife uses the lab to monitor a pre-diabetic condition with consultation from both physicians. We are fortunate to have this facility available with such excellent concern & care. Would encourage all expats to give them a try when medical assistance is needed. Robert K King
Beautiful place I had a great time with my friends we enjoyed the happy hour at the bar.
We had gone before, but we had not found the place open. When he told Sofia, he told us that it was because they had volunteered at one of the events to sterilize dogs. We ordered a latte and a mocha, both were delicious, excellent coffee and prepared with great care. Both the hosts and the diners give this place a sense of warmth that made us feel right at home right away. One of the best places to enjoy excellent coffee in La Penita    Alejandro Zedillo Rojas
