Welcome to all 2,798 newsletter subscribers!

First things first. This weekend's storm brought 73 mm (3-inches) of torrential rains and cool temps. The bridge over the Ameca River in Puerto Vallarta was closed yesterday due to flooding, so expect heavier than normal traffic in both directions. For anyone planning to drive through Mexico in the near future, please be aware the latest weather prediction for Mexico includes more rain, snow, hail and even tornadoes. We've included links to this information and additional road closures below. You can also view current weather conditions on the Official Jaltemba Bay Weather page.

We'd also like to remind everyone that while Daylight Saving Time does not go into effect here in Mexico until Sunday, April 5; the US, Canada and the ten northern border municipalities in Mexico already sprung ahead back on Sunday, March 8.

In this issue: Spring hasn't even officially arrived yet and already the season seems to be winding down. Farewell parties are being held, RVers caravans are starting to assemble, the Tianguis in Guayabitos wraps up at the end of this month, and of course, the Semana Santa crowds will begin arriving in less than two weeks. Luckily, for those of us who stay here, there are plenty of community projects and events that continue all year round.

To find out what else is happening, read through the information below and take a peek at our Event Calendar

Watch for the next issue of the Jaltemba Bay Life Newsletter to arrive in your Inbox on Wednesday, April 1 (no fooling) just in time for your morning coffee. In the meantime, keep an eye on our blog and forum, as we post information, stories and photos there on a regular basis.

Saludos!

El Monteón Hike

by Jasmine Hohenstein

I never get tired of this view on our hike from Rincón de Guayabitos to Lo de Marcos, Nayarit, Mexico. It’s a nice 21 km hike over the mountains, through the jungle, past ranches, under barbwire, over fences, through water...

J.E.E.P. Hilltop Refugio First Spay/Neuter – Surgery with a View

by Rob Erickson

Most readers are familiar with the early-November and late-April spay and neuter clinics offered in Jaltemba Bay. Walking or cycling around Jaltemba Bay, many will agree that there are still many dogs yet to be sterilized. Some dogs are fortunate enough to be adopted by locals and sometimes by visitors to Mexico. This week, we had our first ever mid-season neuter held at Jaltemba Equine Eduction Project (J.E.E.P.) Hilltop Refugio in La Peñita.  Read More

The Lowly Luggage Tags

by Las Tres Amigas

Who would ever believe the effect the lowly luggage tags pictured here could have on the lives of young students. It is quite a success story, especially for something that measures only 4½-inches by 3-inches. Here’s the scoop. A winter visitor has been sewing up a storm making these in a variety of colourful, funky fabrics. Friends and acquaintances have been gladly donating $50 pesos for each one...  Read More
